Of Wicked Blood is an urban fantasy set in the village of Brume, that is believed to be the birthplace of all magic. This book gave me major Mystic Falls vibes but add in a treasure hunt for magical items. While this book starts a little slow the plot really picks up as Slate finds himself in a life or death situation after accidentally acquiring a magical artifact. Cadence and Slate come to learn they are both descendants of founding families, which requires them to rally with the other two founding family’s descendants to hunt down magical artifacts, in order to complete an ancient ritual and save Slates life. This book is perfect you want to get lost in an exciting magic filled plot with strong dark academia vibes. Also, the romance plot between Cadence and Slate was well paced and enjoyable.

Slate grew up in the foster care system and saying it was rough is an underestimate. After getting a mysterious letter regarding his birth family, he travels to find answers. Cadence lost her mother as a child and has grow up with magical tales while living with her papa. When Slate discovers a ring... and can’t get it off his finger... what unfurls is a dangerous journey he, Cadence and the rest of the gang will have to navigate or otherwise face death.

I will read anything Ms Wildenstein writes - I haven’t found a single book I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed! Of Wicked Blood is no exception - real, relatable characters (people who grew up in foster care, an individual in a wheelchair), a lot of action, magic, mystery, lies and deceit... this book has it all. Hard to put down and highly recommended!

Of Wicked Blood by Olivia Wildenstein & Katie Hayoz is a book that I thought I knew what was going to happen, and then added a fantasy twist!

Slate is used to looking out for himself, and has had to do this since he was very young in the foster system. Out of the blue, he's told about a small town where his parents had lived, and that they've left money for him.

There are challenges, secrets and lies that come out when Slate goes there.  This was an enjoyable book, and one that surprised me.  I enjoyed the twists and the story.

So I had no idea what this book was about, before I started reading this. So I didn't really have any high expectations, but it was really I was a little disappointed that the challenges the characters had to go through to get the ring off slate, wasn’t more challenging. They just seemed too easy.

Thank you NetGalley and Publisher for allowing me to listen to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This story changes POV between Slate and Cadence and their journey of discovering what the Quatrefoil is, what the purpose of it is, and whether or not they will find all of their pieces in time. Slate was sent away as an infant and had a tough upbringing in the foster care system which lead him to become a criminal. Candace is the wealthy daughter of a professor who is in charge of Slate's inheritance. After being contacted by the professor in order to learn his history and gain access to his inheritance, Slate accidentally activates a curse endangering his life upon his arrival in Brume. The clock is ticking and they find themselves being drawn to each other, as if by magic. Of Wicked Blood has a delightful French dark academia setting and a unique magic system centered around the town of Brume's history

Of Wicked Blood has a weird quality of somehow feeling both slow and fast paced. While I couldn't put it
down, I felt a little let down and not invested in the plot or characters overall despite being drawn in. There were some flaws with this book, such as ableism and unlikable main characters. I didn't hate the narrators, but I also did not enjoy them.

I did buy the kindle edition of this book and do find myself looking for the next book in this series, because I would like to know how the story plays out.
