This was a good read. I liked both of the characters. I’m glad there wasn’t a super long period of them having the inevitable misunderstanding at the end. I literally laughed out loud at parts, that mostly involved her friends, those were some of my favorites parts. I loved Everly’s friends and will read their books.

Honestly, I can see why I forgot I had read it a year ago. Nothing really memorable about it. It had great tropes like fake dating, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, boss/assistant work place romance. But aside of the tropes I like, it wasn’t my favorite. But I reread in order to try the rest of the series.

So good.
What a fun read! Even having a good idea of what would happen didn't distract from the enjoyment of reading it. Everly was the perfect blend I'd sassy and sweet and it was good being inside Shep's head to see both sides. Loved it!

Oh, Mr. Shepherd Calloway, an emotionally constipated boy after my own heart.
Whilst a little predictable, I did enjoy this story. I mean, I guess it wasn't favorable or fair that I read this immediately after "The Hating Game" because nothing will ever come close. But I enjoyed it a lot.
Everly Dalton is a badass lady with a bad luck in first dates, she ends up fake-dating her boss Mr Calloway to help him get rid of an old gold-digger ex. Sparks are flying everywhere, Shepherd has opened his eyes to the awesomeness that is Everly. I enjoyed her character, she had some moments when I rolled my eyes, but she was overall a bit badass. I liked that her sunny disposition helped her gain everybody's hear, including Shepherd.
And talking about him. Oh boy is that man HOTTTTTTTTTTTTT. From the sex, to his inner thoughs, to his personality, while cliched... it was good.
I think the end fell a little flat to me. Mostly because suddenly there was no more urgency/impending drama that felt strong enough for the main characters to get their HEA. It had started somewhat strong and ended feeling like the characters had outgrown the problem. As if, by being together and growing up because of that love, they wouldn't have gone back to their old ways.

I've tried .. Really I have.
But holy cow. . This book is just well boring and completely absurd!
H (Shepherd or Shepard whatever) has worked with h for nearly three years & describes her as nice to look at then one night he needs an impromptu date so he decides to call on her. He demands that she dress sexy btw (Sexual harrrasmnet anybody?) which she does and suddenly after that he becomes obsessively attracted to her. WTF?!
Also he was just so cold and I basically felt nothing for him as a MC.
Now everly the h was extremely naïve and just a plain 'Yes' girl it was hard to even relate to her.
Who the hell accepts to move in with his boss after 24hrs of him coming up with a stupid reason to fake dating & sleep in his bed and doesn't even bat an eyelash. Then they concoct an engagement in less than a week all the while their interactions just seem. . BLAND!
Also I honestly did not get the need to make hazel (one of h's best friend) seem so robotic.
Anyway DNF @48% maybe I'll be bored enough in future to finish this supposed Rom Com

I love a fake relationship book so I was really excited to jump into this book. Honestly, I really found myself drawn to Everly. I enjoyed her sunshine outlook on life and I appreciated a character who sees the best in people. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to see the layers of Shepherd and these two getting to know each other and falling in love. Where this book lost me a little was that I am a person who doesn't enjoy conflict when I see it coming from a mile away, I get a little iffy about continuing. I felt like rather than enjoying the ride I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and it all goes wrong because it was so clear what the problem was. Often I feel the fallout and resolution doesn't feel right, but this entirely redeemed itself from my fear of the shoe dropping because everything that followed was golden.
Everly and Shepherd are perfectly opposite. She is warm, bubbly, and friendly. She’s the type to do anything for anyone, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness. Shepherd thinks he’s genetically predisposed to be cold and unfeeling, just like his mother. The transition to his demeanor as Everly starts to melt his hard candy coating is a joy to witness.
The “side” characters are a delight as well, I love a group of strong women and her friends did not disappoint. Shepherd’s father and brother are both quite lovely. I didn’t care for Everly’s sister (I won’t spoil why) but suffice to say she put Everly in a terrible position with no thought to the ramifications.
Check it out if you like grouchy men, martinis, strong females, hilarity, love, families, or any combination of these. 5/5 Stars
