A quick read at 160 pages, some interesting points and 'toolbox' of strategies
I was looking for information on sciences and mechanisms. It turned out to be more of a self-help book with techniques that I've seen elsewhere.
I found most of the techniques discussed by Kross to fend off mental chatter to be similar to advice I've heard elsewhere for years on ways to reduce anxiety/stress/depression. Which makes sense, and I appreciated the discussion regarding how the techniques relate to our inner voices. But overall this book didn't blow my mind or give me much in the way of new tools to utilize.

The book goes over both the science and concrete examples of the role that "the voice in our head" plays in our greatest feats as well as our worse torments. The book is written with lots of concrete examples and provides both the data and concrete paths for channelling our inner voice: think about if you were giving advice to a friend, give a time perspective (how will you look back at this in 10 years), ... It also provides guidance on how to help others.

Too much “science”
While I appreciate the messages and learnings from this book, I found it dragged with way too many studies trying to support the findings and overriding messages. This book could have been 30% shorter and I would have gotten the same out of it.
