Read this one to my sister and cousin as well and this one was my favorite! The illustrations were amazing and the detailing just made this so much more better. The story was so cute and funny. I will need to own this one too for sure. I was putting on his British-Harry Potter Dobby voice while reading this and my sister loved it so much she made me read the book 3 more times to her. :)

Lovely, creepy pictures, and a brave little heroine! I would have loved this as a kid!

Lovely, strange illustrations. A stray shows up in the front yard, and rumors of its size get out of control. The youngest family member proves brave, with great rewards.

The artwork delightful, though the story was not nearly as interesting.

When a huge black dog appears outside the Hope family's window, everyone is up in arms. Everyone except Small who isn't afraid of the big, burly beast at all.

Whoever said picture books are just for little kids haven't read a book like this. Lots to talk about with kids regarding theme and symbols.

Love love love love love this book, it may be my new favorite. Sometimes big things are scary and you need something brave and small to make you feel better <3

The black dog is only as big and scary as you believe it is! Wonderfully detailed illustrations and a mildly scary plot make this really fun to share one-on-one.

The illustrations are unbelievable. The story brings up a lot of good discussion points. I liked this book.
