This book struck me as unbelievable as a Black reader. Way too much privilege on display.

Great book! It highlights family issues in the past and how time heals. I like the ending and how the story is wrapped up with a bow at the end

Just okay. It started out with promise and fell flat. ☹️

Honestly a fun and surprisingly interesting read. I didn’t have high expectations just because it didn’t seem like the type of story I enjoy, but I had fun with it. The main character is just flawed and obnoxious enough to be realistic, but not so obnoxious that she kills the whole story. Overall a good time.

I really liked the story and appreciated the nerdiness of some of the characters, but sometimes the amount of self pity the narrator had was annoying

I really enjoyed this debut novel.

WOW - that is all I can say to express my surprise at how good this book was!
A Very Typical Family by Sierra Godfrey manages to hit every mark of a good book: family ties, drama, personal development, infuriating characters, endearing characters, female empowerment, passion, and romance.

The main character - Natalie -is tossed between the past and her present as her life begins to change. Her boyfriend is dominating and condescending, believing he can do no wrong. I found myself so angry with him, which shows how effective Godfrey is in writing her characters. I felt connected to Natalie as she navigated forgiving herself, reconnecting with family, grieving loss, and looking for a different future. I realized how much I wanted her to make certain choices, engage with certain people, and stand up for herself.

The plot is so intricate and beautifully written. It is entertaining in the way that makes the reader feel like they are living in the moment. It is the type of book that makes you think about what you would do in a situation, what words you would say to another, or how you would feel about the circumstances. It is so realistic in this way that I just couldn't get enough.

I have recommended this book to so many different people. It is truly for any and all readers as it piques the interest of mystery, drama, valued living, realistic plot, curiosity, friendship, and love interest. I love the connections that are made between people and the separation between past mistakes and future hopes.

I highly suggest this book for any time of the year, for any mood, and for a general good read!

I only picked up this book because it was available instantly on the Libby app, and honestly, it was such a predictable read. Everything wrapped up way too neatly—girl gets the guy, the family, and the job—like it was checked off a checklist. I almost gave up on it but stuck around since I was waiting on another audiobook to become available. Honestly, it felt like the longest 10 hours I’ve spent listening to a book.
