It was predictable, but I liked the story and relationships.

This was a really cute read. Relatable characters, an interesting storyline. Glad it was recommended by the library! Looking forward to reading more by this author.

I kept waiting for something, anything to happen, but overall it was very anticlimactic.

This book had a good premise, but with poor execution.

I wanted to like this book but there were just too many unbelievable things. I guess maybe it can be like this in real life but I find it sad that the mother didn’t bring the kids together while she was still alive. Why didn’t Natalie try and find Jake’s home address or phone number? Why didn’t she reach out to Buck earlier? What was the point of the missing cat and then the secret room? The audiobook kept my attention while driving but I lost track of how many times I groaned out loud when things happened.

As a marine scientist living in Santa Cruz, I should have known that I would be deeply annoyed by a book with a main character who’s a marine biologist in Santa Cruz. Anyway, I got too frustrated with these characters to enjoy the plot. Plus, too much cat content. Oh ALSO who would ever go to UMass from out of state when you live in…California?? Unrealistic.
