I think I enjoyed this more then the first book. It started a bit slow but got better. Yet, another Sherlock want-a-be, but I forgive her. The conceit that Mary is working the book while the other characters are sitting kibitzing was a lot of fun, also Mary inserting advertisements for "The Strange Case of the Alchemist's Daughter" was a hoot. All the characters wondering around Europe making for an European Travel Book for Londoners -- works.

The climax at the convention was a bit odd. All the stressful build up and the President of Alchemical Society just fixes everything. Meh. Also, the convention setting seemed a bit too modern, I don't think the Scientific Organizations met in that kind of convention in the 19th centenary.

The trip from London to Vienna reminded me of my families trip from London to Vienna with two slightly grumpy preteens. The walk from Gare du Nord to Gare de l'Est (only 500 m? it seemed longer) bought back some vivid memories (though it was raining on us, not in the book)

Great story! I worried for a bit about "name dropping" as there are so many famous characters involved, but their characters are well developed and the story is sound. Very much liked Ayesha as well.

I druhý díl si zachovává velice originální způsob vyprávění.
A i když mi během čtení prvního dílu zpočátku trochu trvalo, si na něj navyknout, u druhého dílu to již bylo velice milé zpestření děje. Ani to, že kniha je skoro jednou tak dlouhá, jí na zajímavosti nijak neubralo. Opět se setkáváme se všemi hrdinkami a ani tentokrát neztrácejí nic ze své vtipnosti, břitkého humoru a ostrovtipu.
Jen doufám, že bude přeložený i další díl, protože já bych se s hrdinkami opět moc ráda setkala na stránkách další z knih.
