this was amazing wow never thought i would ever read about one greek legend that has always fancied me become like this, really loved Ari she is exceptionally strong willed and has power even if she doesn't know it yet. Never thought I would say this but the big A in this story makes the A in pretty little liars armless and more human in this one this A is every bad thing out there. Wow amazing story/plot can't wait to see where it goes
This book (and its sequel) could have been done so much better than it was. It was rushed, half-assed and somewhat trite, taking what I found to be an interesting premise and running with it-- only to stop short and completely drop the ball.
And my biggest problem: usually in novels where the protagonist keeps hinting at a significant difference between themselves and their peers, and/or at a haunting past-- and Ari does both, constantly to the point of it being annoying and attention-whore-y-- there is SOME POINT. at which all those hints are actually explained, where the person's story is revealed. Usually at some point of crisis.
That did not happen here. Not only are you I guess supposed to just guess that the "unwanted male attention" euphemism is supposed to imply she was assaulted I guess (?) without that ever being fully substantiated, but you're telling me at no time did her power manifest itself even slightly besides her fricking hair refusing to be cut? THAT'S her freak flag? Are you kidding me? Even Harry Potter accidentally finds himself on top of buildings when he runs from bullies and accidentally turns his teacher's wig blue, and that's BEFORE we find out the explanation for his weirdnesses.
I really feel like all this author wanted was an excuse to rewrite Twilight a second time (E L. James having done the first rewrite) and dress it up as something different by setting it in New Orleans (hooray, my home state shows up in a book and it's yet another piece of fluff about a white girl with predictable problems, because that's all that we have here, right? So original).

I loved this story. I loved the concept that mixed multiple myths and ideas and people you don't normally mix. I loved the characters. I loved the setting of an 'abandoned' New Orleans. Why didn't I rate it five starts? Because I didn't realize it was going to be a series and it doesn't need to be! It was a perfect story without dragging it out to multiple books. I'll still read the rest of the series, I'm not saying I won't, but it would have been a perfect YA novel now it's a really good start to a series.
I am very on the edge about this book. I have been pondering this book for quite a few days now and i still cant decide if I genuinely like the book or not. The premise behind it is great, so the story should have been great but its just not.
Its not that the book was aweful I just had a hard time finishing it (this was my 4th try at reading it) and when I did I felt. Well nothing. I did not wish to grab the next book nor did I wish to read the reviews of the sequel to see what happened.
I have a hard time letting series end because (normally) from book 1 I get so attached to the characters I cannot leave them, but in this case I do not care what happens. So I will not be continuing the series. I hope Ari finds what shes looking for because I certainly did not.

This was definitely a great book. Combining some of my favourite elements into one. I enjoyed being right about what the book was about (Medusa and the Greek gods/myths). I feel bad for poor Ari. She went through so much in her 'human' life and now she's going to go through a lot in her 'monster' life. I hope she and Sebastian stay together and that she finds cute little Violet. Especially that she finds Violet! I really like her character.

I believe this book started out at the perfect intensity. Then it started to get very boring but picked up and the ending was such a cliffhanger. I'm so into these types of books. It was very intriguing and made me want to actually read the next book. And the main character of this book is so strong and such an individual and she thinks that she doesn't need anyone's help, That she's going to do all of this on her lonesome. than she meets this wonderful group of friends they don't hit it off right away but they eventually grow on each other. This book is really about friendship and how your friends can help you through so much no matter where you come from, who or what your family is because all this group of friends are so different and have special individual gifts and personalities that they all just come together and that's what I really like about a book, That you can read it and get into the book and meet these people and really understand who they are and what they want out of life and these kids are so interesting and I just can't wait to read the next one.
Finally! An author has brought the ass kicking heroine found in Adult Urban Fantasy to YA! From the moment that you meet Ari you will never question her ability to take care of herself and Kelly Keaton's new dystopian/supernatural world will leave you wanting ten more books right away!
I'll admit this right here and now. I was not excited to read this book. Not just this book, but pretty much any supernatural/paranormal debuts. Lots of them seem to be uninteresting or unoriginal to me me lately. But from the moment I read the first page of Darkness Becomes Her I was hooked. I was excited. And I stayed that was for the rest of the book!
The world that Keaton has created in this book was, simply put, fantastic! I bet you have never read anything like it! It was a little dystopian-ish--with New 2 being the destroyed and rebuilt New Orleans bought and guarded by the watchful eyes of The Novem--but it's also different because it is filled with vampires, shape shifters, witches, and just about every creature that you can think of, but this is not a vampire book! No, not even close. This book is the start of a series that I think will be brilliant!
This book could have been awesome based on the world alone, but it is also filled to the brim with intriguing characters. Ari, the main character is everything you could ask for! She doesn't take crap from anyone! She's independent and she might just kick your ass....She carries a gun! A GUN! I loved her! All the minor characters and the love interest, Sebastian were also terrific!
Have I convinced you yet? Are you placing a order for this book in another tab right now? You should be! Unless..you know....you don't like action packed, original, good books.....Read it!

These characters come to life, I rarely put this book down.
