Fascinating, funny, and very informative. Very relevant with all the excitement around ChatGPT and AI art at the moment, and I'd recommend it to anyone who is curious about how these mechanisms work.
A short and sweet book about AI. Nothing too deep or complicated. Minus one star for repetitive bits despite the limited material.

"As leading machine learning researcher Andrew Ng put it, worrying about an AI takeover is like worrying about overcrowding on Mars."
Janelle Shane did an excellent job at creating a very engaging and humorous introduction to artificial intelligence and what it can and cannot currently do. She provides many interesting examples, such as how Youtube algorithms work and the subsequent polarizing consequences of them and how AI has attempted and borderline failed to generate it's own realistic Buzzfeed headlines ("18 Secrets Snowmen Won't Tell you" among many other hilarious attempts). She explains how computers can imitate human behavior on a surface level but still are having trouble when it comes to comprehending context. There is also a lot of interesting information about autopilot driving, and how while it is quickly progressing, it still requires human supervision (and this supervision has been proven difficult for humans to perform consistently, particularly on prolonged road trips).
Great conceptual review of different types of AI, and terms such as activation function, class imbalance, Markov chains, unintentional memorization visual priming, data augmentation, neural networks (particularly clear and interesting explanation of generative adversarial networks). Would be a great book to pick up for anyone who would like to learn more about programming and machine learning.
Very funny and easy to read intro to AI; it's strengths (narrow, repetitive tasks), weaknesses (contextual meaning), and quirks (will cheat and find loopholes whenever possible!). I would give it a 4.25, mainly because certain aspects are repetitive. Highly recommend as a fun read for anyone, regardless of tech background.

Love this book. It's very funny and walks you through some potentially very confusing algorithm constructing issues with computers but in a really easy to understand way, WITH ADORABLE DRAWINGS TO ACCOMPANY IT.
What more could you want in a book about artificial intelligence? Would definitely recommend to learn more about the topic in a fun relaxed and highly engaging narrative.

An interesting look into the quirks & pitfalls of AI, and the author uses those insights to illuminate the ways that AI works (or, you know, doesn't). I kind of wish it had gone a bit deeper, or further explored some of the real-world implications of this. Though honestly, that's a bit unfair, because it's just not what the book's trying to do. And for what it is, it's a very good book.
