Started slow but picked up towards the end.
I don't understand how anything could be better than the 1st book, but Ancillary Sword utterly & completely topped Ancillary Justice! Everything about this book is just UGH I love it. The levels of politicking are more intricate and none of the new characters (because there are MANY) come off as insignificant. The ending of this book is an amazing set-up for Ancillary Mercy and I can't wait for it to come out! BE PUBLISHED SOONER PLEASE GOD
I am pleased, but the ending wasn't as satisfying as the first since we're now definitely in a series.
Spoiler
I loved that just when I was becoming crazy distracted thinking about the Presger treaty and how that worked when the Presger didn't have anything like human language the Presger translator appeared. I am very sad she died so very quickly though.
absolutely not what i expected (at the end of the day it kind of feels like breq is just vibing) but idk i enjoyed it
i am still so confused about tisarwat tho

medium-paced
While I did thoroughly enjoy Leckie's Justice follow-up, and found her writing clearer and crisper this go-round, I did have a few issues with the narrative/pacing of this entry. Chiefly, that it feels a bit like it gets lost in a class/familial struggle that, while relating to the overarching/central plot of the series, feels a little too much like perhaps it should've been a side story to the series, and not the crux of its middle chapter. Additionally, the ideas put forth in the first book, about what an ancillary is and the myriad difficulties inherent to a world/universe in which one person can have a multitude of entities, physical and mental, felt far more pointed and decisive in the first book, while for large swaths of Sword Breq's status as an ancillary-made-singular feels not entirely critical to the narrative or her progression—at least not until the very end.
Still, it's an enjoyable, well written, and strikingly creative book, and I'm looking forward to starting in on the third and final of this series.

A change of pace from the 1st book but still engaging, if anything, much more so.
First book great. Set up for exploring some big issues and doing some stuff. But..... They piss around on a station and water time doing NOTHING of consequence!
