This was marketed to me as a romance, and I wouldn’t qualify it as such—which I think has made it more difficult for me to review overall. I’d say this is a book about grief, and processing that grief. I was certainly invested in the characters and wanted the best for them, but I would not consider romance a priority in this book. Still, I think it was well written and I think the tone and pacing used when Eric is having conversations with people who aren’t there (Jasmine and Haru) VS with people who are (his parents,

This story could have been so much better if the author did basic research. Positive : it is nearly a sweet story about grief and loss. The main character is lovable. You want him to be happy and loved. Negative : it is in Chicago and the author apparently has never even looked at a map of the city. It was jarring as a lifelong Chicagoan and kept knocking me out of the story. Also the illness that afflicts one of the characters actually exists and has a simple treatment. This book was disappointing and I cannot recommend it to anyone.
