The story is good. The writing needs quite a bit of work and editing. There is a lot of “telling instead of showing.” Some scenes really didn’t make sense or didn’t feel necessary to the story. I was especially irritated at one of the main plot points. The actions and the response of the FMC didn’t seem appropriate given the circumstances. The twist were lackluster because they were pretty obvious. I could not get invested in the love story. Again, I think this more an issue of the writing. It read more like a fanfic summary. I suspect this is better consumed in audio format. I am going to read book 2, however I will immersive read and see if that makes a difference. I really don’t think this book reflects this authors writing capabilities well.
