I hadn't immediately realized what this book was when I first picked it up. I'm just working my way through King's work in publishing order.
So pleased to have read this one. I think it pairs nicely with 'On Writing' for anyone who enjoys writing.
He's really making it hard not to develop a parasocial relationship in this one.
He really is Uncle Steve in this one.
Some of the opinions feel a little bit "old man yells at cloud", but even when he isn't making statements that perfectly align with my own, he doesn't feel insulting or pushy.

It's fine, can't say it did much for me and it's very much of its time in terms of the politics and views expressed, there's nothing super egregious. The best bits about this collection of essays are all the B movie plot summaries, I do think it fits that King would find something to enjoy about the trashiest offerings of horror cinema.
I kept disagreeing with his take on things (which is fine) but his 'separate the art from the artist' take on the director of Jeepers Creepers was the last straw for me.

This has been on my to-read list for so long I think I had built it up far too much in my head and had forgotten how much King can go off on a tangent. Having said that, I did enjoy the sections about horror fiction writing over the 30 years up to the early 80s, less so the film and TV sections, and I did like King's insights into why it is such a popular genre despite the ever present question about why would people write about or read such things. I wasn't so keen on the biography bits about the various authors, directors and others involved in the world of horror but then I'm never keen on such things anyway. The main issue with this now is how out of date it, with 37 years having passed since it was published, there is so much more to review and the genre has progressed and changed so much it would be great to see an update to this, or a follow up volume. That said, I did still enjoy it although maybe not as much as I had hoped.

Leer un ensayo donde se combina las anecdotas de King con su opinion sobre el terror es algo que cualquier fan de Stephen va a adorar (te adoro Stephen!!).
La cantidad de obras que se discute en este ensayo es fascinante, tanto, que no dude anotar cada libro, pelicula y serie que aparace desde la primera pagina, va a ser super interesante sumerguirme en este festival de terror (aun cuando hay cosas que ya lei o vi, esta lista vale muchisimo la pena). Igualmente al final del libro se encuentra una lista detallada de peliculas y libros.
Encuentro este libro hermoso porque a medida que se lee podia imaginar a King tomando cafe y conversando lo que es ser un fan del terror, que deberias ver/leer y como todo se conecta con todo..
