Wow. Kristen Hannah has once again blown my expectations out of the water. She is truly a wonderful author and storyteller. I am not a fan of historical fiction but I will always pick up one from her. She made me feel like I was experiencing the story with the characters. And I truly respect the way she researches by including people who have experience with the subject and using their input to make changes to the story in order to make it historically accurate. I would recommend this book to all! If I could rate it 6/5 I would.

This book was beautifully written and covered a topic that even today I don't think is talked about. What the Vietnam Veterans went through in Vietnam and the treatment when they came back is a reminder of this war and the public feelings around it. It was so sad to see how the women were treated as well. Being gaslit and basically being told their service didn't matter. Having to deal with the same trauma as the men but not allowed to talk about it. 

My heart broke to see everything that Frankie faced in this book. I loved seeing the friendship between her and her fellow nurses from the war and the support they gave each other. Reading her journey was hard at times. I felt so many different emotions while reading this book. 

This book does deal with some heavy subjects that could be upsetting to some readers. This book is about war and mental health after the war. I would recommend looking up trigger warnings online before reading this book.

This book had me in its grip from the first page. It's heartbreaking, romantic, gut-wrenching, thrilling, and so much more. Seeing Vietnam through the eyes of a female nurse, as well as her struggles upon returning to the US, was truly eye-opening and really taught me a lot about that period of time. I will definitely be reading this again.
