I really liked the dog aspect of the first, this one I just couldn't get interested in what was going on unfortunately.

It just wasn’t marking sense to me. I liked the first part of the series. But this didn’t click.

And now we go even farther into the future, but with a touch of the present involved (A++ job on the abyssal void that is Thompson, I want to light him on fire in perpetua), for a look at all the fun and terrifying ways that people can bind each other and create heirarchy, a circle back to Honey and Bees, and some pretty goddamn astounding developments. Happily it looks like there's a third book in the series, and I'm in for more.

This is a high sci-fi world with a lot of room for complex thought about humanity, corporations, technology and the predations of the rich and powerful.  Some great characterization helped keep me engaged with the complex, morally grey world.

"Sometimes, hidden deep within the trap of ‘They’re not like us’ was the terror of ‘What if they’re just like us, but stronger?’ Sometimes the fear came because you were scared of looking into the eye of the monster and seeing your own reflection," (p.29).

Enjoyed the bear puns in an otherwise dark and tense story. Looking forward to the third in the series as the first two have been very thought provoking.

Pretty on - not as good as the first. The thinly veiled Trump villain and political screeds is a little too simplistic and on the nose.
