I'm now fully prepared. Are you??

The Zombie Survival Guide can be divided into two basic sections: survival manual and outbreak history. The approach to the book is fairly deadpan - written as a run-of-the-mill survival guide with enough snarky little asides to remind you of the content. The sections dealing with survival (weapons, transportation, planning, etc.) became fairly repetitive. The history of zombie outbreaks is more entertaining. Who knew that zombies were responsible for the disappearance of the colony at Roanoke, VA?!? When reading World War Z, you'll know who had been truly well-prepared and followed Brooks' instructions.

Thought it would be a fun survival guide with a little bit of an "oh no zombies" twist, but it was super zombie focused, which isn't bad, just not my thing. I do have the WWZ audiobook on hold tho, and I'm excited

Dear Goodreads,
This was fine. I gave it three stars.

I have to admit, I'm impressed with his ability to do this entire book with a straight face. Or, you know, whatever the writing equivalent of that is. He doesn't ever crack jokes, he writes it like it's an actual survival guide, right down to lists of materials. Of course, the problem is, sometimes it just ceases to be entertaining and gets a bit tedious. That's surprisingly rare though, and for that, it's impressive.

The best part was the "Recorded Attacks" part at the end. I'm actually a bit bummed that these snippets weren't included in the World War Z movie. I'm of the opinion that World War Z would've worked better as a miniseries like, say, Band of Brothers, with each episode focusing on a different area. I know they had to put Brad Pitt into the middle of everything, but the movie kinda sucked because they forced it into the story of a single man, when it should've been a World War. I'd like particularly to see the LA Gang Zombie attack on film.

While the technical manual aspect of the novel intrigued me, it quickly bored me. The second half which concentrated on the risings of the Walking Dead as documented through history was much more in the style of World War Z and much more interesting.

Honestly, while informative, I couldn't wait for it to be over. But I will say if a zombie attack ever arose, I would be well prepared.

It starts good, but the latter parts become tiring and feel, if I'm being honest, repetitive. If you read "World War Z" you're pretty much covered, and don't need to bother with it.

Side note: As a certified geek, I can't for the life of me consider sound advice to use a pig iron sword (commonly known as katana) for anything other than decoration.
