Everyone (especially non-Black people working in public health/healthcare) should read this book. Dr. Blackstock has an incredible story, and shares essential information on anti-Black race bias in healthcare (and the world.) I loved reading about her mom and sister and the legacy of Black women in healthcare.

There is a lot of work to do in regards to making our society and healthcare system equitable, and especially if you are not Black or a POC, this is a book where you can to begin to learn about the injustices that you may be ignorant to or have never experienced.

Deeply personal book, combining a tribute to the author’s mother, her own memoir, and various aspects of racism in medicine and healthcare in the US. It was thoughtfully written… but I was left wanting more, somehow. More patient stories. More technical medical information. More examples/ideas of what non-medical-community members can do to help, specifically.
