When I started reading this, I was initially not impressed- Lara was not appealing, it felt like it wasn't going to be anything new/different, and I just generally was guessing it'd end up with 2 or MAYBE 3 stars. Next thing I know there is a ghost in the mix, and I was incredibly confused, and initially thinking "Sophie Kinsella, WHAT are you doing???"

I'm glad I kept reading. In the end, this is a fun, creative, enjoyable story. Is it great high art? Probably not. Is it supposed to be? Probably not! I ended up really liking all the characters, and I especially loved that while romance has its place here, the story is really about the relationship between two very different women, and about the process of one woman realizing her power in the world. I expect Kinsella to write a fun story and a likable heroine- after all, Becky Bloomwood is one of my faves!- but I didn't expect something with a tinge of fantasy to it done well.

It's a fluffy read, but a darn good one.

I loved this one-off from Sophie Kinsella! Really great character in Sadie, her deceased aunt who needs to find a necklace before she can rest. Great read!

Leggero, scorrevole e divertente in perfetto stile Kinsella, ma molto delicato e malinconico nel finale...impossibile non affezionarsi a Sadie!

when i heard the news about sophie kinsella's cancer battle, i knew i had to revisit one of her novels. it was a full-circle experience for me, but this time, it carried a deeper and more meaningful resonance. i've been a fan since my teenage years, and now, as someone slightly older than her protagonists, her works strike a chord with the complexities and nuances of a woman in her late twenties navigating the modern world! literally me!

lately, i've been telling myself that i'll never stop feeling young at heart. like, deep down, i know i'll forever have that teenage spirit. so, imagine my gasp when i realized that's one of the core messages in this book. no matter how old we get, our creative flair and happy spirits will forever remain in our hearts.

sophie kinsella's words reminded me that embracing the wisdom of maturity doesn't mean surrendering the magic of youth. love that for me!!!

Why I didn't update this, I will never know. But I finished this one last week... And it was pretty good! Rather funny and I didn't want to stop listening!

I do have to say, it's seriously difficult to find an unabridged copy at my library of any of Kinsella's novels and I can make it difficult to follow along and update here accordingly!

Kinsella books are so awesome on audio, and I know I will continue to enjoy them this way in the future!

Audio-This was not the funny story I have grown used to from Sophia Kinsella. It had it's funny parts, but it had a feeling of melancholy through much of the book. Perhaps because I saw myself in the characters flaws.
Lara is a nice young lady with her own business and a fabulous boyfriend. Everything is going her way. Till her fabulous boyfriend dumps her, without saying why. Her partner leaves town, and all their clients that she was to take care of. She has no idea how to handle this side of the business. Her parents and friends thinks she's gone 'nutters' texting her ex constantly. To to it off she is being haunted by her Great Aunt. (What a mess.)
Sadie is her Great Aunt, she has just died at the age of 105 in a nursing home. She wants something, something that was hers and now it's lost. She in a funny lighthearted character that shows up in her twenties.
The two of them engage in all kinds of craziness. The search opens many new doors, and slams a few others closed. Lara has a chance to learn of her heritage and learn her own heart in this journey. Perhaps even give up her obsession with her ex ?
I enjoyed this book immensely. It was so close to my own life, with her job, her partner, her love, her obsession. I can't wait to read another book from this author.

I, typically, thoroughly enjoy Sophie Kinsella. This was no exception. I like the characters and how the plot unfolds. True, sometimes there are plot holes. Sometimes the main character will say or do things that are exceedingly dumb leaving me thinking, "That doesn't even make sense!" BUT It's always temporary and I'm willing to put that aside for the other fun parts of the story.

For pure lighthearted fun, this was good.
