Done and Dusted (Rebel Blue Ranch, #1) - 4 stars.

⤿ Rating: ★★★★☆.5

“I see you, Ada. I always see you, even when you won’t look at me.”

This book offers a delightful blend of comfort, relatability, sweetness, and sensuality, creating an enchanting reading experience. The romance unfolds in a swoon-worthy and charming manner, capturing the essence of love in a way that resonates deeply. I found it to be more enjoyable than “Done and Dusted,” as Lyla’s writing has shown significant growth and maturity. One aspect I particularly appreciate is her commitment to addressing mental health issues within her narratives; in this installment, she thoughtfully explores the theme of depression. However, while the portrayal of Wes’s struggles is compelling, I felt that the depth of his depression and its impact on his life warranted further exploration. Overall, the book is a solid read, though it leaves room for a more profound discussion on such an important topic. And I devoured it!

Ada Hart

At his core, Weston Ryder was gentle, and I thought that was the best thing that a man could be.

Ada embodies the essence of resilience, intelligence, and resourcefulness as she embarks on a quest for belonging. Her journey leads her to Rebel Blue, a sanctuary where she discovers a sense of acceptance and community that had long eluded her. Despite her independent and reserved nature, Ada grapples with the belief that she is incapable of forging meaningful connections. Having emerged from a toxic and controlling relationship, she struggles with feelings of unworthiness, convinced that she does not deserve the happiness and support that others freely offer. However, the unwavering encouragement from Wes and her newfound friends gradually helps her reclaim her confidence. They illuminate the truth that she need not conceal her true self behind a facade of indifference, allowing her to embrace her identity and the vibrant person she is meant to be.

Weston Rhodes Ryder:

“You’re the moon and I’m the tides. You pull me in without even trying, and I come to you willingly. I always will.”

Wes, with his charming blush, has undoubtedly captured my heart

Much like the first book, this was a cute story that chugged along nicely. Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun, fluffy read.

I liked the depression representation with Wes, I thought it was handled realistically. However I feel like it could have been explored more.
Same with Ava’s divorce trauma - the book danced around the issues but I would have been happy for this story to be 100 pages longer if it meant more character exploration.
(Also why did we never get to find out why Chance called her?!)

I hope Teddy and Gus’s story is next because I LOVE their dynamic!

Sometimes I rate books purely based on my mood and other times I really think it through. I genuinely enjoyed this one, maybe even more than the last. I loved the overall chemistry and vibe between Ada and Wes. The situations in this book felt super relatable and were handled really well. I’m definitely becoming a fan of Lyla Sage; she puts so much thought into her stories, and they’re such easy, enjoyable reads. I didn’t find a single “ick” in this one, which says a lot since I usually spot at least one!
