How can such a tiny book of letters be so lovely?

Me parece muy ironico la idea de que Helene Hanff haya escrito ficción toda su vida y se haya hecho realmente famosa con su primera historia que no es de ficción, debería haber seguido su propio consejo.

This is a nonfiction book— a series of correspondences sent back and forth between an American woman and a British bookseller in the 1950s that spanned 20 years. I will give it the charm factor, but besides that I was just soo bored. So bored.

I read this because it was supposedly the inspiration for The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which I loved. It is similar in that it is a series of letters back & forth. But the literary references are too obscure for me, and there's no romance. Helene is a little too full of herself. I like all the english characters better than her.

This was such an enjoyable and charming read that was just right for springtime. Hanff has a great voice that perfectly shows off her wit. I enjoyed the sequel, The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street more, but that's because I have a love for travel memoirs.
