2.5. The plot was a bit slow to be considered a thriller — there was one moment of tension at the end. Otherwise, it was filled with Charlotte’s musings about the mysteries of her past and present. Did she mention that she had been poooor? I never connected with her personal narrative and would have enjoyed the book more if her inner dialogue had not been continuous/repetitive low-grade drama and worry. The dialogue between characters was often cheesy, although I did enjoy the real connection that she had with her brother. It was apparent who the first murderer was quite early on in the book, but the random family connection for the second one was a nice touch.

On the one hand, I really loved how Belle presented the heroine. She is honest. She is believable. Also the whole worry about a love triangle is baseless. So relieved.
On the other hand, you can call the mystery by page 100, if not earlier. Also, I really wish there had been some female friends for the heroine instead of surrounding her with men.

A family full of secrets between Jax, Paul and Charlie. Paul's first wife, Katherine, died in a drowning accident and Paul never moved on. He withdrew into himself, until Charlie came along. Things started to reveal itself when a stranger was found dead floating in the same spot that Katherine was found years ago. Things always find it way to the surface.
I don't know where to begin or end. It's an amazing read. There were twists and turns every way from beginning to end. Yet it all made sense, even with so many characters. The characters were fully developed.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me read this fabulous ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I REALLY wanted to like this book but it was too slow and there were too many characters to follow. My Libby app says I spent over 20 hours trying to listen to this book and I still can’t finish it.

I like the story well enough so far, but I just can't stand the narrator. Maybe I'll actually read it.

This book was interesting from the beginning and had me wondering about the truth, but once it all unraveled, I feel like the twists weren’t really strong enough.
