I read this book over a decade ago and I still sit with it. I can't explain how but it changed me, like a handful of books it is always with me.

Bad premise for a piece of fiction meant to inspire political change.

This is actually the 2nd time I’ve read this book. Learned about it at Sunday Morning Coffee Talks with Tom Shadyak about 7 or 8 years ago. At the time I was stuck in a life that felt wrong on so many levels. This book, along with the movie “I Am,” helped me figure some things out and set me free. (Let my high paying TV job, moved to the Ozarks and have a low-paying job with purpose. One that is about more than just gratifying myself. While doing that, I’m working on getting a novel published. It feels like heaven.)

Reading the book the 2nd time didn’t leave me feeling as disoriented and inspired as it did the first time. Many of the concepts have simply become a part of me. Yet, there were new things to contemplate.

Is it the greatest book ever written? No. I’m sure the author would agree. Does it have an important message for a species that has broken the law and is therefore set to become extinct? Yes. Sadly, I do not think this book will save us, though it’s worth passing along and trying. Bought a used copy at the bookstore up the street and have already loaned it out to one person. Sending another copy to my niece who is hiking the CDT this summer.
