I wanted to like it, but I think the execution is poor. Also, there are an UNUSUAL amount of similarities to Fourth Wing.
This could have been an opportunity to be a better version of Fourth Wing, but, the execution/plot/writing falls short in comparison (and I even found the writing in Fourth Wing to be quite lacking).

I wish we had more POV's, the two chapters from Raith was so refreshing. It gets to a point being stuck in Nessa's head all the time. I figured out the plot with Voss the moment he came into the picture so predictable but interesting nevertheless.
The book itself was fine, but it was 100% a ripoff of Fourth Wing.

Really enjoyed this book, the first line hits HARD and drew me straight in! Academy setting with some dystopia a la student deaths, interesting magic system, and well written character relationships, with action that kept me hooked. Went on to read book 2 but it's not out until next year, no! A great and easy read! Only not 5 stars because I thought sometimes Nessa was inconsistent with who she trusts, and some of the plot points I guessed early on . Great read though!
