This was a pretty wild ride. I went back and forth with feeling sympathy for June while also being disgusted with her (which I guess is what the author was intending). I wasn't a huge fan of the ending, however. I felt like it kind of came out of the blue.

The beginning sucked ne right into it - kinda lost interest ln the end because it got a bit to absurd - however would def recommend reading it!

A weird, creepy story I didn’t want to stop listening to. I saw a review that called this a modern-day retelling of Crime and Punishment—and there’s something to that. The art here is in the balancing act of making the narrator both sympathetic and detestable. It’s closest in genre to a thriller, though, like in Crime and Punishment, the turmoil is mostly internal. I’m not sure the ending completely satisfied me, but I ultimately had a fun time listening to the audiobook. I’m planning to read Babel at some point.

I read this right after Babel, so that explains the lower score. It's a well-written, funny book full of interesting details about the publishing world. I enjoyed it, but it didn't blow me away.

Wow I didn’t want to put this book down at all! The first person perspective was extremely engaging. Kuang did such an amazing job writing an insufferable white woman I found myself rolling my eyes so much.
