Well. I can honestly say I haven’t read a book with this level of spice in quite some time. It rivaled the time spent on the plot, which I thought was fairly substantive despite the spice, but also somehow incorporated a ton of character development and settling into their relationship dynamic with every scene. I don’t really know how Elliott Rose managed to do that, but it was some kind of magic, I’m sure of it.
In any event, this book is like a 5-alarm fire and is truly only meant for romance readers that are here for a main course of spice with a side of plot, and even more spice for dessert. It’s one of those reads where there are red flags everywhere, but red flags that you absolutely love to read about, even if it would be time to call the authorities in reality!
Each character is truly unique and brings diverse experiences and motivations that are integral to both the plot and the RH relationship. I absolutely adore these men: Thorne, Kyron, and Raven. Fox didn’t have to pick between them, so neither will I because by the end, I loved them all to pieces. I definitely didn’t see the plot twist coming, but I very well could’ve been distracted enough by all that spice that my brain wasn’t fully functional! I am ready for anything else Elliott Rose has to offer from Port Macabre - bring it on!

Vengeful Gods is the delicious first book of the Port Macabre series written by the fantastic Elliott Rose. I am a fan of her Crimson Ridge books and the yummy Cowboys, but this one takes a darker turn with a security society and revenge. When I heard it was in the audiobook, I jumped without a thought and was so happy I did. This book is thick!
The focus of the book is our FMC Foxglove Noire. Having escaped a dark past and a secret society, she is now a tattoo artist. When a handsome stranger walks into her studio for a new piece of work, she finds herself kidnapped and right back where she was trying to escape from. Her captors are the very sexy MMC of the book.
Kyron, the surfer Viking and all-around lovable companion. Raven, the society’s executioner. His distant and rage-filled demeanor is super hot. Then there is Thorne, the leader of the group. This why choose is spicy hot and will make you blush! Whether it is one-on-one or a team event, I devoured this book. The book has a fair amount of suspense and has a great twist toward the end.
The narration was excellent and kept me engaged. Gabriel Spires and Amy Hall brought the cast of characters to life!
I am writing this 2 star review for the next person who reads it only to come here and see the multitude of 5 star reviews and wonders if they're crazy for not liking it as well...I see you, I hear you dear reader. You are not alone*****
I really wanted to like this more. It has things I love like reverse harem, ott men, swords ⚔️, secret society and tattoos! But somehow it was written in such a bland way! I would be very surprised if someone who enjoyed this book could find any scene they actually loved that wasn't a sex scene. The sex scenes were good I'll give it that hence the 2 stars.
1. How did we go from "we literally hate you and wanted to torture kill you" to "we love you can't live without you" absolutely no rhyme or reason except sex.
2. Almost no interactions between the characters that weren't sex. So no finding out anything about the actual people that would make them go from I hate you to I love you in the blink of an eye.
3. The mmf character was set up to be this tough independent tattoo artist who successfully fled from her terrible controlling, abusive, criminal secret society family BUT did nothing but what everyone told her to do! Even other women characters, bad guys, the love interests that did kidnap and threaten her at every turn. She was just lead throughout the whole book! Not a single plan to escapee or attempted escape at all. Which would have been fine if what we were told by the author about her character matched that!
4. The secret society stuff was so confusing...mostly because it made very little actual sense and because it felt so detached from the story itself. Like oh wait don't forget there is a secret society stealing children!!!
5. The end...yeah it was just really anti climatic and the "secrets" being revealed were just ok. Also the its my twin switcheroo was lame and not ever remotely surprising.
6. Also calling this a Beauty and the Beast re telling is a stretch!
7. Ok this one's petty and just me but shortening the male characters name of Raven to Ven just took me out Every Time!...not sure why, I think it just sounded silly

First, if you are looking for spice, this is the book you’re looking for! I loved getting to know the guys and their vastly different personalities. I wish there was more plot in the beginning of the book, it seemed the first 60% was mostly spice and most of the plot was at the last 40% (but still had lots of spice) i can’t wait to read the other characters stories in future books.
