Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye
3 Stars

Abby Cooper is a psychic therapist who helps her clients find their own paths in life. Unfortunately, Abby’s abilities give her no warning of the upcoming upheaval in her own life when a client is found murdered and her charming blind date turns out to be a detective who now sees her as a prime suspect…

Abby’s humor and practical approach to being psychic make her a particularly likable heroine although there are one or two moments when her behavior is somewhat questionable and her terrible memory for details leads to a lot of wasted time and misunderstandings that could be avoided.

The mystery is good with several intense moments and a slew of plausible suspects. That said, the ultimate explanation falls short mainly due to the fact that the author’s terminology is incorrect -
Spoilerthe villain is an abuser not a serial killer
and this shows a decided lack of knowledge and research. Moreover, the dialogue is childish at times and the tone of the book far too cutsey for my tastes.

The romance has potential. Even though Dutch does not make a good first impression, his developing love/hate relationship with Abby is entertaining.

Unfortunately, Elizabeth Michaels narration is weak. To begin with, she sounds at least 10 years older than Abby and her voices are all the same. There is no distinction between male and female characters nor does she differentiate accents. This is exceedingly disappointing as the first person perspective necessitates audio for me and it is unlikely that I would listen to another.

Listened to on Audiobook
Narrator: Elizabeth Michaels
Bought on Audible

What I Loved: This was a fantastic murder mystery and the psychic elements made it really fun. Abby was an engaging lead character. She was at times very brave and at the same time sometimes very stupid. Dutch was a fantastic straight man to Abby and their exchanges were part of the fun of the book

What I Liked: The fact that I did not know who the murder was committed by. I guessed a couple of times and was completely wrong. I think that makes a good mystery.

Complaints: Liar, Liar Pants on Fire was a little over used.

Audio Specific Review: The narrator was ok but I think she made Abby sound older than she was. I also think she made her sound a bit annoying at times.

Why I gave it a 3: This was a fun little cozy murder mystery with a bit of a psychic connection. I am definitely going to read more in this series.

Who I would recommend it too: Anyone who likes fun mysteries and don't mind a little bit of a psychic thrown in.

I will admit this book probably doesn't deserve the 5 stars I'm giving it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing may not be the best in the world but the plot and romance definitely made up for it. I cringed when the main character said things like "me llllikey" but I was willing to overlook it because I was so caught up I the story. Abby is a pretty good main characte, while she is chatty and offers up many many details I could have lived with out, she cares, she gets grumpy like we normal humans do, and she tries to right her wrongs. She's brave, albeit a little careless in her personal safety (but what cozy mystery protag isnt), but she is also scared. She mentions that she's tired of looking over her shoulders and is scared enough she even takes a trip to see her sister and get away from everything. I like the book overall quite a bit. As a sucker for romance, this is definitely one of my favorite cozy mystery romances.

All the Psychic Eye Mysteries are great! Love the cross over with the Ghost Hunter Mysteries as well.

This book was just what I was looking for... light reading, but with a plot that kept me guessing, great dialogue and interesting characters. I plan to read more in this series.
