this book was crap to me for like literally the WHOLE first half of the book. i could barely continue to read it, took me longer than usual to read cuz i just didnt wanna continue. i HATED the guy like seriously CHOOSE ONE GIRL OR THE OTHER AND STOP BEING A DBAG. but the girl was real witty and funny and just didnt let anything phase her, i loved it. i also did NOT like the girl's friend. she was too emotionless and tactical. it was like she was making all these choices for the main girl just for occupational gain and not bc it made the main girl happy. anyway, literally wanted to throw up while reading it in the first half but it slowly got more interesting so i pushed through and finished it. idk why i gave it 3 stars i think it was more like 2 but eh.

Umm okay

WHAT I LIKED:

I quite enjoyed reading this book. It wasn't the first book I read that dealt with fame and celebrities, but this was the first that shows the "before" and "after". It's a good thing that Kyle didn't really change his attitude and personality when he got famous, which says a lot about his character.

I also enjoyed the romance bit of the book! It's super sweet and innocent, the whole chemistry between Kyle and Rachel was easy to pick up.

The book also dealt with cyberbullying for the first part of the story and I'm glad that the topic was touched. Also, Jilly Gagnon's writing is really good!

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

I almost always tolerate cliche tropes but I just felt like the book was full of them. There weren't any significant developments to the characters too, which is one thing I'm always looking for. It was also a little hard to relate to the characters, although, they gave me a whole new perspective when it comes to being instantly famous.

FINAL VERDICT:

Overall, the book was enjoyable to read. The writing was really excellent and I loved that the book was told in alternating POVs of Kyle and Rachel. Their voices were distinct as well. It's a good light-hearted read, and I'll be on the lookout for Jilly Gagnon's future works!

I just finished Jilly Gagnon’s #famous.

Oh how I loved this book! I burned through it pretty quickly. The plot centers on a girl and a guy – Rachel and Kyle – who get their lives turned upside down by a seemingly innocent social medial post. This feels pretty darn timely, but Gagnon’s writing doesn’t make it feel cheap.

I actually loved all the characters, including the Mean Girl Leader, Emma and Rachel’s best friend Mo because they feel so real and lived in and reminded me of my own high school experience. And the dialogue is so snappy and delightful! I honestly loved every single minute of it. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone wanting an adorable quick read. 4 stars all the way.

This book was really cute and a fun take on the Alex from Target story. The only cons were the girl hate ("She's just not like other girls!" Gag) and a few too many colons. This structure: enough is enough. Me: getting annoyed.

Still a fun romance. 3.5 stars.

Jilly Gagnon's #famous tells the story of two teenagers, Kyle, who becomes suddenly famous after a picture of him goes viral, and Rachel, the girl who took the picture. This book brought back memories of how terrible teenagers can be but also reminded me that, sometimes, they could be cool. Nevertheless, this was another book that reminded me that I am so glad that high school is over and that I never want to go back there.

The book is based on real events, namely the Alex from Target internet phenomenon. While the characters and specifics of the story are fabricated, I felt like Gagnon stuck too much to the real world and events at time. Her talk show host, Laura of The Laura Show, is exactly Ellen only with a different name. Details like this made it hard for me to relax into the story. Instead, I kept finding myself drifting off and wondering about the actual people involved in the real events.

That said, this book is adorable and, as I have said with other books I have read this year, I enjoyed her writing. Talking to Gagnon at her book launch about this book, she told me about other books she is working on and I am excited for those. I believe that she will be more successful in the future when she is able to craft the world on her own and not try to adapt real events. I think she let reality get in her way sometimes with this book.

When I started this book I got into it pretty quickly, but then I lost interest and it took me until the last day of my library loan to finish it, and that was only because I was already 70% through and didn’t want to DNF. I think I just wasn’t in the mood for this anymore. Cute story though.

wouldn't have read this if I hadn't been stranded with nothing else to read while babysitting sleeping kids, but it was funny enough that I could almost overlook how non-special it was.
