"- 'Have you any brothers?' demanded Mr. Beaumaris.
- 'No,' said Mr. Scunthorpe, blinking at him. 'Only child.'
- 'You relieve my mind. Offer my congratulations to your parents!' ...
- 'Only one parent,' he said. 'Father died three months after I was born.'
- 'Very understandable,' said Mr. Beaumaris. 'I am astonished that he lingered on for so long.'"

I've seen a few times that Beaumaris is a top favorite amount Heyer men and I would have to agree. I think he's my favorite. The last two Heyer novels I read were Frederica and Venetia which both feature a heroine in her mid 20s who is quite clever and independent. I loved both of those books but it was a nice change to read about the young and sweet Arabella.

Neither one of Heyer's best nor worst. This was really obviously divided into acts: Arabella & Her Family; Arabella in Town; An Interlude with the Men (Beaumaris & Bertram resp.); A Happy Denouement. There was a notable lack of endearing support players! and stuff I would have enjoyed reading about happened off-page (e.g. Beaumaris visiting with Arabella's family).

One of the cuter Heyers! I really like Arabella and her family and her conscience, but after the elegantly indifferent rich dude realises he loves her nothing interesting really happens. So it loses a star for that! I would also have liked some misdirection with Arabella and her brother and rich dude being jealous, but that is my id speaking!

Kena "armastusproosa" vahepeale, aga tahaks miskit veel tõsisemat romantikat. Pole aimugi, mis see olema peaks.

Comfort re-read. Standardly delightful Heyer. No notes. 9/10, would recommend. (Slight deduction for annoyingness of protagonist’s brother.)

Georgette Heyer’s books are comfort reads for me and this one doesn’t disappoint; cute, funny, sweet.
