I love that her books are clean romance, but I have a hard time with her writing style. Too many words that I have to look up or try to figure out what they are.
As the eldest girl in a large family headed by a vicar, Arabella Tallant knows her duty: she is to make an advantageous marriage in order to help her siblings. Therefore, she is sent off to London to stay with her godmother and be present for the season. Saddled with her duty and the level-head her father has always instilled in her, she might have come onto the scene with less than a splash had she not run into a gentleman, on the road to London, with the ability to get under her skin. For Arabella is revealed to have a sharp tongue and to take action; when she overhears herself being called a fortune hunter she seeks to put Mr. Beaumaris in his place by telling him she is a great heiress. And of course this lie spreads across London, making her the belle of the season and the one to catch in every man’s eyes.
From my perspective I found this book to be charming. I enjoy the Regency period and was not disappointed to be placed within this environment; the author is also wonderful at describing the setting to allow the reader to travel back in time. The storyline unravels in the way you would expect it to, since it is pretty formulaic and has plenty of similarities with Pride and Prejudice, so I advise you do not expect too much out of it. However, if you were on the lookout for something quaint to serve as a break in between heavier reads then this would be perfect. Arabella has been my introduction to the works of Georgette Heyer and it certainly did enough to spark an interest in me to read more.

Love it! Love it! Love it!
It required a little more of my concentration than Jane Austen (though that might be because I have read Austen over and over), but what a fantastic romance. Full of wit, sarcasm and silliness!
I cannot wait to read her other heroine novels.

This was such a sweet book. This is my first Georgette Heyer after reading quite a bit of Julia Quinn and Lisa Kleypas, and I'll be back for more. The prose was very different from modern historical romances, which took a bit to get used to but helped immerse me in Arabella's world. It got easier as I went along, and by the last third of the book I was laughing out loud at some of Mr. Beaumaris' quips.
although I usually love this era of book, I'm not a big fan of girlie girl romance. I found myself skimming quite a bit....
I thought this book was much better then [b:The Convenient Marriage|32106|The Convenient Marriage|Georgette Heyer|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1320400640s/32106.jpg|3183163]. It was slow at the beginning, but I liked the two main characters and after it got going the story was pretty interesting. Especially once we find out that Mr. Beaumaris is not fooled by Arabella's charade of being an heiress. Thankfully the side story of Arabella's brother did not go on to long or become too boring, and the details on fashion and dress were not as painful in this book either.
The biggest thing that left me not as satisfied as I could have been was that each character had a point where they were suddenly in love with the other, but no explanation was given as to why they loved them or what made them fall in love. It bugs me the way books do that sometimes. Maybe author's feel like the readers will figure it out themselves but I think that just like in real life, we all like to be told the reasons why someone loves us, so I want to see that in books too, instead of left trying to guess. But that's just me rambling...
Overall this book was an enjoyable, clean, regency romance.

It was fun and I liked it a lot, but it’s also product of its time.
