Couldn’t get into this one sorryyyy

I liked this book, but I didn't love the heroine. I just found her inconsistent and couldn't get past the deception.
Loveable characters: No

Not for me.

I’m not quite certain how Heyer manages to make tropes I dislike so entirely delightful, but she does. I can’t get enough.

There are so many scenes and moments in Arabella that had me laughing out loud. It's really a very funny book, as well as a heartwarming and romantic one. The hero, Robert Beaumaris, is swoon-worthy, and the heroine, Arabella Tallant, is a delight. Another excellent novel from the great Georgette Heyer.

I've gotten used to the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am of modern storytelling where plot developments unfold at a breakneck speed, so this book seemed a little slow to develop; and Heyer seemed only too happy to prove her historical research by putting in every. last. tidbit.

However, I was looking for a light and diverting romance, and that's exactly what Heyer delivered. Arabella is a charming and winsome heroine, very appealing in her penchant for rushing to help the troubled; and Mr. Beaumaris is an amusing chap who plays at reluctance in helping Arabella's strays, but nevertheless does the right thing.

I enjoyed this so much. It was not as funny as Grand Sophy, but I think I love Mr Beaumaris more. The wit. The banter. How it obviously is her rendition of Pride and Prejudice while being wholly her own. So good. I need more

The rich heiress hoax should've been resolved in the middle. Prolonging it until the end gave an awkward and unsatisfying finish in the story. Nonetheless, the hero made this book. Mr Beaumaris was one funny fella, and his interaction with his dog and butler were top notch.

In grad school, which was an intense and stressful time, I read pretty much everything P.G. Wodehouse had written. Wodehouse was exactly what I needed, and I didn't care at all that the books were all basically the same and pretty darn predictable. I devoured them like they were Oreos.

Right now, I'm going through another stressful, intense time (pregnant and raising a toddler) and Heyer is just exactly what I need. Her, and shortbread cookies.

Arabella didn't suck me in quite as quickly as [b:The Grand Sophy|261689|The Grand Sophy|Georgette Heyer|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1414731822s/261689.jpg|3234291] did, but I ended up loving it just the same.

Arabella, a girl from a relatively modest family, pretends to be an heiress in order to put a snobby rich guy in his place. Of course, it backfires.

Special animal guest star: Ulysses, the mutt with ears (I suspect) like Parker's, adopted off the street.
