I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for an advance copy of The Summer Children. This is the third book in the series, I really LOVED the first book and this one, the third in the series, was so far the best of them all. I loved the characters and felt I had a vested interest in them, I feel the love and friendship the characters had with one another is what made the third book the most enjoyable so far in the series.

The story starts with FBI Agent Mercedes Ramirez coming home from a date night to a child on her porch covered in blood and stating that an “angel” told him Ramirez would take care of him. What happens from there is a case of bloodied children being left for Ramirez, although the children are unharmed, for the most part, why are they showing up on her doorstep?

The subject matter is be a little tough but written in a way to also show compassion, love, caring and friendship. I enjoyed this book and will be adding it to my physical copy in my library.

So far, this has actually been my favorite book within The Collector series -- a broken, abused woman has grown up and is now killing bad parents that abuse their children. I know, I know, I want to tell you how awful this is but on so many levels I understand this serial killer. I get it, protect all of the children that the system is not protecting. It really does make for a great set up because you can at least understand the motive of this murdered.

Agent Mercedes Ramirez is a great character, if not broken a bit herself, and so I really delved into this novel. It was a great audiobook to listen to while at work, despite the dark subject content. Looking forward to the next installment.

This was a great read. Definitely dark and sad and traumatic, considering the subject matter but also very well written and I was so absorbed. Loved Mercedes so so much, what a protagonist. From her personal life (being gay which was an unexpected but nice touch), to her backstory to her in the present and how good of an agent she is; I was completely in love with her. Also loved her relationships with her team. I was a little lost when the girls from the first book showed up only because I skipped ahead and read this one first but I’m definitely going back to read the first book now to get the whole experience.

DID NOT FINISH: 17%

Book was moving too slowly. Seemed to be more about the relationships of the team than the actual plot. I was also having a hard time following - that could be because it was an audiobook or just because it wasn't keeping me engaged.
dark mysterious tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated

I recommend this series to all the book lovers I know!!! The Butterfly Garden will always be my absolute favorite of this series but each book is wonderful in its own way. I loved getting to know Agent Ramirez through her work with the FBI and getting her background story. There are some hard to read parts involving children but the story moves along quickly focusing on Ramirez and solving the ongoing case. I also enjoyed the inclusion of past survivors from the first two books!

my head kinda empty tbh idk how i feel but i don’t think i liked it ??
