“The fates do not make mistakes.”

All Shivaria has known since being plucked from a smoldering building as a child is how to fight. Her survival relies on it. Raised to be an elite assassin, the time has come to put her skills to the test when she receives her mission: kill the Feyn King. As she’s thrust into an unfamiliar realm, she must rely on herself to do whatever necessary to infiltrate the palace.

I cannot believe this is a debut novel! It’s so great. The world building is incredibly vivid. JR Cathers does a spectacular job of showing instead of telling what’s going on, which I absolutely love in a fantasy series. The storytelling alone pulls you in immediately. On top of that, we have the plot: captivating, rich, complex in all the right ways. But the slow burn romance really takes the cake. I loved (and loved to hate) the characters! I also really enjoyed putting all the pieces together and theorizing about what’s going to happen next. Now starts the wait for the next book in the series!

I was lucky to be selected as an ARC reader for Child of Shivay and really enjoyed it. Run, don’t walk, to get your copy on October 16th! I can truly see this one becoming one of the next big ones. Eeek, I can’t wait for y’all to read it!

 🌙✨ RAVE REVIEW ✨🌙
CHILD OF SHIVAY by @jrcathers
🗡️ Book One in The Veils of Terr

Every so often, a book comes along that reminds you why you fell in love with romantasy. Child of Shivay is that kind of debut—lush, razor-edged, and utterly unforgettable. ❤️‍🔥

This story is forged in tension, tethered to fate, and steeped in ancient magic. From the very first page, I was pulled into a world of divided realms, deadly secrets, and fea bargains sharp enough to bleed.

The lore? Impeccable.
The world-building? Vast and immersive. And the romance? Slow-burn enemies to lovers that erupts into tastefully done, open-door spice with emotional stakes that ache. 🥵

Shivaria is a heroine I won’t forget—an elite assassin trained to kill, now bound by fate to a man she was meant to destroy.
The protective, fated-mate MMC? He’s layered, loyal, and yes—he falls first (and hard).
Their bond is as dangerous as it is magnetic, and it unfolds across a landscape filled with political intrigue, whispered prophecy, and the slow unraveling of everything Shivaria thought she knew.

JR Cathers has crafted a debut that feels like legend: sweeping, fierce, and deeply romantic. If you’re craving a story with soul-deep tension, feral fea energy, found truths, and a heroine with a blade in one hand and destiny in the other—read this book. ‼️

This is the beginning of something epic.
