I had a more saucier review, but upon a 10 second reflection my review more comes down to: I get it and I have been there. The emotion that she is writing from is dark and very reflective of the mind of someone dealing with what is being depicted in these poems. However, I do take slight issue with the tumblr-esque romanticization of cycles of abuse. I feel the honesty and the need behind writing them, but I fear their impact.

A collection of short poetry in my mind that was gut wrenching and heartbreaking at times. She expresses some really hard and personal things that was both raw and visceral. I can completely empathize with her words and what she is expressing in this book. Definitely a harsh reality check that people’s lives are not always as they seem. We see a fraction of what people ultimately want us to see. This was a super quick read but rather enjoyable and emotionally impacting.

Dark, raw and eye-opening. Some of the poems felt like fillers with no real substance but there were quite a few powerful ones. There's also a lot of rage, pain, unresolved trauma and abuse and I feel like this is the author's way of working through them. I loved her introduction and the illustrations.
I was really excited to read this because of Megan Fox but have to admit I'm somewhat let down even though I liked this collection overall. Maybe it's because I still feel an emotional distance between author and reader despite the difficult themes covered in this book, like there's so much more she's not saying and I still don't know the real her.
i didn't realize how much of myself
i was giving away
or how much of me was disappearing
until I turned on a light
and couldn't even find my shadow
but maybe if we use a black light
we could still find all the stains
you left on me

‘And my heart never rests because it does not trust the hands that hold it.’ - Megan Fox
When we watch celebrities on television or social media, we often have a glamourized idea about their lives. When I think of Megan Fox, I think of a badass bombshell. This book shows her vulnerable side. It mentions mental and physical abuse. She dedicates this book to every survivor, including herself.
The poems were very personal, yet I felt a linger of hope. The strength to fight back.
Glad I picked this up!
