Beautiful writing but I'm not sure if this was the best place to start with Mishima

“…three fish caught in a net of sin.”

well, that pretty much sums up this book -and my review, in a nut (or net) shell !

The Frolic Of The Beasts is all about an intense, dysfunctional -almost carnal, love triangle(?) that, like any classic affair, doesn’t exactly have the most hopeful of happiest of endings (I don’t think that’s a spoiler…)

This is my second (yup, I’m all about those second chances) Mishima, and though I still found his language (or perhaps the translation) rather challenging to read at times, I seem to have come out the other side unscathed (which is more than can be said for some of the characters…).

I think slowly beginning to understand -and perhaps even appreciate, Mishima visually poetic writing style. Where plot, in a way, comes mostly secondary to the characters; their emotions and environments.

A beautifully written book, about some not so beautiful people.

A bleak take on love triangles that adds psychological depth to classic Noh drama. Mishima’s vivid metaphors and detailed, elegant descriptions of his characters’ gestures, movements, and facial expressions are a highlight, as is the subtlety with which he describes his protagonists’ inability to achieve peace.

I received this book through a goodreads giveaway for my honest opinion.
I really really enjoyed this book. I didn't want to stop reading it, but work always gets in the way.
This book is beautiful. The story is great and engaging. I had a hard time relating to the characters, but the writing drew me in.
There were multiple times when I just gasped and said wow at the beauty of this writing.
This was my first Yukio Mishima and I will definitely be reading more.
