In The Guilty Wife, the narrator has no problem stating she is guilty, except not of the murder. She has twisted her life up in a series of lies and evasions to cover up an affair. This leaves her hanging in the breeze as far as anyone believing her once it is important to be believed. This book has a great plot and some interesting characters, it just really seemed to drag in the middle for me. I liked the resolution and how the characters were left. Best described as a domestic thriller.
The book is interesting and you cannot take that away from the author, but it was also highly predictable and at times the writing was very rushed.
You know what’s gonna happen and who’s guilty from the characters introduction and the whole book is a bit o a stretch as we follow dumb(bc let’s face it anyone could have seen it) Bethany trying to solve her lovers murder. I don’t think the book was crap, it kept me reading, but for someone who reads a lot of thrillers, it wasn’t thrilling. And the prologue was not necessary. I felt like the author wasn’t sure if her writing was enough to make readers understand what happened and felt the need to explain. But it actually sounded like she thought her readers were dumb.

I think the moral of this story is trust no-one, and suspect everyone... Quite a rollercoaster of a suspense story that primarily tackles a brilliant concept; if a woman is guilty of adultery, is she also guilty of more?
The Guity wife is a fast read; it took me a little bit time to enter the plot because I felt it a little bit slow.
It is an ok psychological thriller it has its turns and twists, the ending for me was a little bit awkward but an ok one. For a debut book, it gets 3.25 stars from me.
Some characters are likable, and others that are not so much. There are parts that the main character, Bethany, is doing crazy things that serve the plot of the story, but it is not so logical as well.
As I said in my only update that if you don't like reading books about adultery, I wouldn't suggest this book for you. This book was one of the two books I picked when I was browsing the shelves of the public library of my city. The English part of the library is an ok one. When there is a book that I think is an interesting one I pick it up and read a couple of pages from the first chapter.
The cover and the title got my attention, and I didn't want to read the summary or the blurps. Crime-thrillers, psychological thrillers, and the mystery genre is one that I like to go blind.
Elle Croft's writing is interesting, and I think if I find another book by her in my public library, I will pick it up.

I really disliked the man character in this book, however it does keep you guessing until the end who the murderer is and the final plot twist redeemed it a little.
It isn't a book I would read again or recommend to a friend as I struggled to continue reading it. Maybe this is more down to my judgment of the lead charachter than the writers ability to spin an interesting tale.

I wasn't expecting to like The Guilty Wife this much. But, sitting here after finishing the last few pages and reeling from a story with more twists and turns than a roller-coaster, I can say it blew my expectations out of the water. Bethany Reston is a married woman who runs a photographer studio, living in London, happily it would appear from the surface. Peaking underneath the wobbly surface, she is having an affair with a client of hers. A suave billionaire - who also happens to be married. Oh, and now, he's dead.
See, Calum (the dead billionaire Bethany was having an affair with) had no intentions of leaving his wife for Bethany. But that doesn't make Bethany guilty, from a shallow perspective. But as the mistress? That does make her a suspect in the spotlight. But the further that Bethany has to hide her grief from everyone in secret, the more the mystery unravels. Throughout the bustling plot, many suspects and intricate mystery that wove itself through a modern mystery, I was totally engrossed by the compelling story Elle Croft had written. Bethany knows that to protect herself from the spotlight and evidence crawling back to her, she has to prove her story is the truth. The only way she knows to clear her name is to catch the killer. But catching a murderer? Not as easy (or safe) as it may seem...
Overall, this book totally changed my perspectives on trying something new to read. I was so surprised how I didn't know who was guilty or not, and the things I didn't see coming (even though I'm usually so good at that!). I did get a little lost toward the end when the plot started unraveling, but as a whole, The Guilty Wife is a must-read for Thriller-lovers and a true great read. I can see myself recommending this to a lot of my friends and family that love this genre for it's originality and surprises around each corner! Huge four stars. Loved.
