Well....I can say that didn't end the way I expected.

I loved that this book focused on Dani, finally. It was a long 9 books of build up to get here and I wasn't truly disappointed, a little surprised perhaps but definitely not disappointed. Dani is Dani to a T in this book. I don't think she changes all that much, she grows a little in the sense that she realizes maybe she needs to step outside her own 'box' and see the people around her (not her city, because we know that has always been a focus, but the people.) One thing that really struck me in this book was Ryodan and deciding once and for all that he is a bigger teddy bear than I ever expected.

I truly enjoyed the little it at the end in regards to the meteor, (you have to read it to find out) it was just sweet all around and considering the prologue to the story in regards to it just plain heart warming. It's just that everything that went around it was a little odd. Maybe it is because I haven't read the first 8 books in so long that I have forgotten bits and pieces but a lot of what happens in this story seems to kind of come out of nowhere. I suppose what that means is I just need to do a binge reread, lol.

I am glad that I never quit on the series, I took a break, but never quit and I don't think you shoudl either. In the end you will be satisfied and maybe even wish for a little more, (hello The Nine) fingers crossed.

Another great ready from Moning. I enjoyed this instalment showing life after the walls come back up. Enjoyed it being Dani's story but I missed Mac and Barron's. Moning has left us with some un-answered questions so I hope that there's more coming in the Fever series!

This series is literally the longest I’ve ever read. It takes a lot for a series to hook me and actually want to read every book in it. So it’s obviously good. I’d read a lot of reviews about the most recent books in the series that were negative. They spoke about how the series had dragged on too long and it was just repeating and they didn’t like this one specially with KMMs presentation of Ryo and Dani.

I did read this a lot faster than the others and I think it’s because I thought there were a lot of unnecessary details? I don’t know if that’s the right phrase but I never felt like I was properly in Dani’s head the whole time. I do agree that Ryo was really different here than we’ve ever seen him. He’s always been mysterious and so clever and here I felt like there was this youthfulness about him that connoted naivety or inexperience? Which is weird? I’m not sure what specifically gave that vibe.

Despite that I did really enjoy how it ended. It makes sense that Dani would be a Hunter. Her thirst for adventure etc. And it makes sense that Ryo would be perfect for her. There was a part at the end where Dani spoke about understanding each other and I really do think they’re the only 2 people who could ever understand each other fully.

I still have so many questions though. It’s nice that Dani’s got her HEA but we don’t have that for Mac. So I’m glad that we’re revisiting her in the next one and hopefully wrap up her major arc there. But what’s gonna happen to everyone else?? So much to answer. I hope that KMM has gotten back into her groove a little bit and the next one really gets into the characters heads a bit more.

I think the best way to describe my feelings about this was as if she was telling me what was happening in HV but I wasn’t reading the book. Like id just said to her oh tell me about book 10 and she gave me this. I don’t think it went as deep as some of the others. That being said I still enjoyed it but I hope for a bit more from the next.

If I'm being honest I really disliked Dani for most of this series. She was my least favourite part of the earlier books and I remember just being so irritated by her POV chapters and her first book.
But the last couple of books turned me around on her. She really grew as a character and stopped making so many dumb decisions. And by the end of this book I was goddamn WEEPING because she finally has the family she deserves including her dragon/hel-cat mama/baby bear. I'm always a sucker for the 'family you choose' trope.

I'm always a little amazed at the number of people that complain about a book or series of books and the direction the author chooses to take them. This one is no exception to that.
Since the beginning, the Fever world has had a very large cast of characters. It began with Mac. Her choice to leave her perfect little suburban world and seek out information about her sisters death in a completely different country began a journey we could never have imagined. Thankfully, KMM could and did. Through Mac's journey we met a number of people. And little by little, though Mac's story was front and center, we learned the stories of the others. And Dani was one of those closest to Mac's story. Because of the actions of Dani (though we all know through no fault of her own) we have Mac's story. So it only seems fitting that we should witness the evolution of Dani the Mega O'Malley in her own books.
And this one, this evolution, I did not see coming. But it was a fantastic evolution. A little bit soul crushing, a little bit more heart-breaking, and a whole lot of eye-opening wonder. I cried with Dani, I flied with Dani, I loved with Dani.
If you love the Fever series, don't let yourself miss out on these stories. They are different. They should be. But they are simply wonderful stories that keep the Fever world alive a little bit longer.
And I like the way High Voltage ended. It could be done. But it could go on. Always leave them wanting more.

I got this book as a Goodreads Giveaway so I feel obligated to do a review... I never do reviews.
There seems to be mixed feelings on this book, and after reading it I can kind of see why. The first half of the book is basically a lot of naval gazing on Dani's part and really boring. The later scenes with her and Ryodan were pretty heartwarming and enjoyable. Those parts plus a clean wrap up for Dani was what earned this the three stars because I've been following this story for a long time, I started reading with the Highlanders. I'm not sure how much value a first time reader would get out of this book. Overall it felt like a clean up job, a side character grew completely out of control (in total Mega fashion) and now the author had to tie off her storyline. There wasn't enough material there to justify it's own book and too much to have crammed into the previous book. It was just generally awkward. After having been given multiple books to watch Jericho and Mac develop their love, R&D felt way too rushed, but also drawn out.
Which brings me to the sticking point for a lot of readers. This is what happens in a romance story when you introduce the two MCs while one of them is still a child and then try to rush the readers through to the bedroom scenes.
On the other hand there was pages and pages devoted to this whole side tangent with a couple of characters that was obviously staging for the next set of books.
I loved Dani, never was a big fan of Ryodan but whatever. I was glad she got a happy ending and one that was to scale with her personality. She still seemed like a petty child here but hey, she's got a lot of time to grow up now, right?
