Okay… WHAT!? Up until Shadowfever I liked Dani as a supportive character, but found her POV a little annoying. During Iced I actually started to really like Dani and I felt like I really needed that book to happen within the series so that I could accept her more. Burned through Feversong I was as obsessed with Dani/Ryo as I was Mac/Barrons. AND NOW…OMG! Am I more obsessed with Dani/Ryo? YES. This book is tied for my favorite in the series to far with only one book left to go.
I could read 11 more books centered around Dani and Ryo. Shadowfever is my favorite Mac/Barrons book in the series and High Voltage is my favorite about Dani/Ryo.
**SPOILER QUOTE:**
“I waited four months and what did you do?" He shot me a look so full of scathing fury, I flinched. "You grabbed the nearest man that looked like me and took him to bed."
I gasped, "How do you know he looked like you?"
He smiled, baring fangs, eyes flashing crimson. "I ate him!"

I liked it, but I didn't love it. I originally didn't like how Dani aged, but then I thought there was going to be a spectacular romance with her and Ryodan. It was just a bit disappointing that he went from being more beastly than Barrons to a lovesick kitten.
.
Everything was just wrapped up too neatly, and nothing much happened. I think I am done with this series, whether there is another book or not.

I could pretty much guarantee that something was going to happen to Dani so that she would be able to live for all eternityEverything was just wrapped up too neatly, and nothing much happened. I think I am done with this series, whether there is another book or not.

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)
The Song of Making has been sung and the black holes have been vanquished, along with The Sinsar Dubh and all the Unseelie. But life is not all sunshine and rainbows.
The Song might have destroyed one villain, but the remaining Fae have been changing and evolving into more powerful and more dangerous foes. And the gods that have been trapped beneath the Earth have been awakened by the magic of The Song.
Now Dani must find a way to defeat these new foes, and it seems she’s on her own. Mac and Barrons are missing, Ryodan and the Nine have left, Christian is MIA, and Dani is alone…until she finally isn’t.

REVIEW:
This one started off really rough. Sad. Depressing. Lonely. Everyone was gone but Dani! It was utterly bleak and lonely-feeling.
When Ryodan and the other Nine return to the story (at around 150 pages), the book gets a lot better. At this point we also find out what’s going on with Barrons and Mac, and Christian and Sean (who are now fully Unseelie Princes) both make an appearance as well.
But before they returned, the book was depressing. It’s two years that Dani wanders around alone (with Shazam at her side). And that was too much.
After the fact, when we find out that Ryodan locked himself away to give Dani time to grieve Dancer and choose to come to him when she’s ready, I wasn’t so mad. Barrons and Mac have also been facing their own battles (which I hope we learn about in the next book). So everyone being gone was justified. But it was still a weird atmosphere before we got to that point.
The story was interesting with the awakening gods, but it also felt a little underdeveloped. Did just the two gods awaken? We only really hear about Balor and AOZ. Gustaine (The Roach God) was already awake. So the fact that just two gods surface was kind of underwhelming. I thought it’d be a whole battle with all these gods who have crazy powers and stuff. But it was just kind of a side story to Dani finding herself and coming to terms with her love for Ryodan.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Dani and Ryodan have finally come full circle. I can’t say I love them as much as Mac and Barrons. But if it’s gonna happen, I’m glad it finally got there. But I did think the story surrounding the gods was weaker because of the heavy focus on their relationship as well as Dani’s transformation.
Let’s talk about that. Dani’s transformation. This was…random? I mean, it’s okay I guess. I liked how we find out about the star message getting to Ryodan thousands of years ago. That’s cool. But I don’t even remember Dani’s hand turning black from a Hunter. I’m sure it happened, but it was also so insignificant compared to everything else going on. Her becoming a Hunter just seemed random to me. Maybe so she’s immortal now. But it seems like other routes could’ve been taken. I wasn’t a huge fan of the whole thing. It’s okay…I guess.
My favorite part of the whole story? BB&B floating in the clouds! That was pretty damn cool. lol
No seriously, there was a decent story here, but it seemed incomplete too. What’s going on with Kat and Sean? What about Mac and Barrons? What about the fae who are being assholes to the humans? I donno, everything just feels left hanging.
I do think I finally figured out what feels so off about the books after book #5. I wasn’t exactly sure how to pinpoint it. But now I know. The series is missing an anchor. A character or couple who we follow the entire way through. Most Urban Fantasy series’ stick with one POV and this one has been absolutely all over the place since book #6. It just feels weird to be jumping around so much. I truly believe that if the series had stayed with Mac as the only POV, the series would’ve progressed better. I don’t hate the other characters, but I also need to be inside the head of one person in this kind of series. It just works best.
Still, overall the book was okay. I’m glad that Dani got her HEA. I’m okay with how it ended up. But I would like to get some finality for Mac and Barrons and the fae now.
And I’d still LOVE to know where the Nine came from. Did I miss it? Have they told us at some point? Because I don’t remember ever finding out their origins. Their past? Yes. But their origins? How they were made or where they came from? No.
Maybe the last book will give us all those answers finally. We’ll see…

“I learned young that moments of comedy during the horror show can be a life raft, enough to keep you bobbing in a violent, killing sea.”
I don't even know if this book actually deserves 4 stars or not, but it's a solid 4 for me (even maybe a 4.5), and that's because it feels like reading about family, like coming home again after a long trip (a trip that lasted almost a year for me because I couldn't start reading it before), like getting to meet again with people you've missed for years. We all know these characters too well and we definitely know they're nothing close to perfect, but I think that's the reason why I love them all so much; they're so relatable because of their flaws and mistakes. It's clear, of course, that they're strong, but it's a strenght that has its roots on weakness and I'm obsessed with it, I want to be like them.
So, Dublin is at war, there are the Faes we've known from past books, but now they are crazier and growing stronger after the Seelie Queen sang the Song of Creation. There are also a few gods that had emerged again to remove all humans from existence. In the beginning of the book we have Dani, she's alone and trying to keep her city safe after the Nine and Mac are gone, but after a while some of those characters reappear (thank god!). This book is not as full of action as, let's say, Shadowfever, but we have some insights about things we've wanted to know from book one: what are the Nine (we don't get the full story but bits of it we can connect in further books perhaps), where do the Sidhe-seers come from, more of Dani's past and, the thing that completely captured my heart, why is Ryodan so deeply attached to Dani (this part we get to at the end of the book but trust me, it will melt your heart and make understand A LOT more about that thing going on between them).
Overall, it's a great book for all of us fans of the series, but it may not be what you expect if you're waiting for something fresh and with more action. I love the characters even more now, and I'm curious about what will happen with Dani after a huge change she came through in this book.

So, I sh*t you not... I, by pure happenstance finished this book at 3:14 am... Which is ironically hilarious to me for reasons that anyone who has read the book will understand. I couldn't have managed that if I had been *trying* to. But, I digress.... I surprisingly loved this book! Dani has never been one of my favorite characters, but has been growing on me through the last few novels. Until this book however, I never liked Ryodan as her HEA for many reasons... Now? I guess he'll do. There's a lot more to their relationship that we never knew until this book and he has become more worthy of the great Mega. :)
I don't want this book clickbaiting me in lists I browse.
