I was completely transported to the dorms at U of Arkansas in this multi-narrative take on college culture. From the mundane to messed up moments, Reid captured something about undergrad insecurities and how people define themselves. Most of the characters are unlikeable, yet I found myself hoping they would find their way (not Agatha).

As excited as I was about this, it was just meh. It was a slow build up until the last 100 pages, which were exciting but very chaotic and disorganized. The dialogue felt cliche (I still can’t decide if that was intentional) and all the characters were infuriating. It was a lengthy, roundabout way to illustrate the theme of white women taking advantage of Black women for their own gain.

I loved "Such a Fun Age" so when I saw Kiley Reid had written a second book I was stoked! I wasn't expecting the book to have so many queer characters, man what a great surprise!!!

Reid's characters are laugh out loud funny without falling into unbelievability. All of the characters feel so real and relatable. I liked that I couldn't figure out where the story was going and I was never bored. The climactic scene was so well done!

Loved this book. Can't wait for her to write more!

Different from her 1st novel so if that is what you were looking for, it definitely does not fall in line with the deep contemplation around the issues of consumerism/classism/racism/queerness.

I heard about this book from someone online, and I was excited to pick it up.
"Come and Get it" follows multiple women in an Arkansas college in 2017, and explores their different experiences. Agatha is a traveling professor who is trying to write a story about college girls. Millie is a senior resident assistant who is trying to figure out her life before she graduates next year. We also get to follow a couple of Millie's students she is watching out for in the dorm.
I really enjoyed that each character had a completely different personality and different struggles that were competing for their attention. I think this diversified cast really added a robust element to the story. I think almost any woman could read this book and identify with at least one person and their difficulties.
It is so difficult to be a young adult and try to navigate the world. All of the characters were flawed and made mistakes, some worse than others, and it added so much to the story to make it all the more relatable.
I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a story about how messy life can be, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out to read from Kiley Reid in the future.
