This was a book about the moral grey area's of relationships set in a university. I thought it was an okay read, but there was too much build up that I felt didn't help progress the story in a meaningful way and by the time the climax and resolution came I was ready for the book to be over.

Not sure I can say I enjoyed this. The first half dragged and I only really felt invested in the final third. At the start I found the dialogue (which so many praise Reid for) awkward and stilted. I don't know what I'm missing here. In the final third the action picked up and it finally became readable. I don't mind a character study but I don't think any of these characters actually moved forward at all? Confused as to why this is such a hit to be honest.

It's absolutely true, per other reviewers, that there's no real plot to this book, but I still greatly enjoyed it! For me, it made me think of if the Malory Towers or St Clare's books were written for a modern adult audience, and I loved those as a child, so I guess that makes sense. I do think there were perhaps a few too many characters - I'm not sure what Joanie, Josh, Simi, Agatha's friends from home etc. really added - but I loved Millie so much that I could look past this. There was the right balance between lighthearted and more serious drama to keep this an entertaining, fun read, while still having plenty to say about money and class in the southern US. I liked this just as much as Such A Fun Age, once I got into it (the first few chapters were slow going as I got to know the different characters) and will be buying anything Kiley Reid writes in future.

A thought-provoking and cringeworthy read. I was excited about this book based on the content is was said to cover. Although it didn't pace as well as I thought “Such a Fun Age” did, I have now become a fan of Kiley Reid and the talent she has for sussing apart the complicated layers of social dynamics.
