This is a book with a pretty mild/vague plot and a great cast of characters with a lot of drama - both personally and with each other. I can see this not being everyone’s favorite book, but for me it was perfectly batshit. I felt like I knew all of these characters so well, like I was in the room with all of them.
This is possibly my book of the year for 2024 - I LOVED it! I think it would be a great mini-series adaptation, a la Little Fires Everywhere.

I really liked the different personas in the book and how the characters all interacted with one another. It was great to see friendships form and the dynamics that they all had.
However, I can't rate a book highly if I don't see the point in it? In the world of literature, this book did not change a thing and there's a lot of books like that nowadays, so I then think 'okay well did it make me feel things?'. The answer is no. Perhaps I just dont get it.
It didn't teach me anything, and it didn't add to my idea of the way friendships work??? This review is confusing because I am confused.
Basically it just had no plot whatsoever... we never got the end of anyone's stories except Kennedy's and her ending was that nobody knows the truth and shes letting everyone think she tried to khs, and then she goes to Target... Huh? If it's going to be a boring ending to a 400 page book at least give us an ending that ties the rest of the characters storylines up.
I also thought the diversity aspect of the book was great at the start but became extremely shallow and weird? At the start in the inital interview there were comments made from the 3 girls about Millie and just statements in general like calling something 'ghetto', and I thought this is an interesting topic to explore and develop throughout the book - almost like internalised racism and not realising its a bad thing just because there was no malicious intent. Instead, it just turned into Collette randomly calling things racist and never having any development on that... Millie was just like 'okay yeah' GIRLLLLL.
I felt so numb throughout the book, the only time i ever had a moment of heightened emotions was when Colette told Millie she wasn't gay... that just pissed me off because I actually would have been in a full on fight at that moment but Millie never even got an apology.. she did the apologising?
Overall, it was a decent book with potential but I just feel like I read 400 pages with a straight face and no feelings, and I dont think thats how a reading experience should go.

This book sat on my TBR for nearly a year because I wasn’t vibing with the cover. I’m so glad I finally pushed it to the top of my next up list because it was brilliant!
I loved Such a Fun Age so I expected to enjoy this book going in, since I’m a big fan of Kiley Reid’s writing style and voice. The characters were so distinct and layered, I can’t even do justice to how well Reid does people and relationships in her books—she’s a genius and the people in this book are completely real to me, I know them well. I care about them and want to spend more time with them.
