This was an intriguing story that jumps between a few characters as the storyline plays out. Chicago mobsters, a hit gone wrong, failing relationships, this one has it all.

Whilst the writing style is not totally one that I usually like, and I didn't connect with the characters too much, I did want to know what would happen and see how things were ultimately going to play out. Not how I expected, that was for sure.

All in all this was interesting enough and I would read more about these guys in the future.

For Rico Sanders, it was just another day collecting payment for his loan shark boss. A pigeon-blood red ruby necklace, belonging to his boss, had been stolen by a businessman down on his luck. And it was Rico’s job to retrieve it and teach the guy a lesson. But when the chase goes south, Rico finds himself in uncharted territory when two innocent bystanders are accidentally involved in the crime.

Special thanks to Ed Duncan and Book Publicity Services for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review! The author jumps right into the action on the first page and it’s nonstop until the very last. Coming in at 200 pages, this book was a very quick read. I enjoyed the pacing of the book and the short chapters made it easy to read. The characters were extremely well-written, although I wasn’t a huge fan of Rico. He just wasn’t likable to me and I struggled to root for him. Overall, a decent read for me.

Very well written. I enjoyed this as a “light thriller” I’m one for the dark and twisty thriller. This is more of a cat and mouse thriller but didn’t have as many twists and plot changes I would like. I’m not one for a jewel heist but the characters were well thought out and defined and just enough back story for all. Wasnt to wordy where you start to get lost in back story if that makes sense . I did enjoy the writers style the story moved along very smooth .

I’ve had this book in my TBR for a very long time, and I’ve just finally gotten to it! I don’t know what I was waiting for, this book was great! Thank you to @bookpublicityservices and the author @ricostays for my #gifted copy!

For underworld enforcer Richard “Rico” Sanders, it seemed like an ordinary job: retrieve his gangster boss’s stolen goods, and teach the person responsible a lesson. But the chase quickly goes sideways and takes Rico from the mean streets of Chicago to sunny Honolulu. There, the hardened hit man finds himself in uncharted territory, when innocent bystanders are accidentally embroiled in a crime. Faced with a tough decision Rico must either follow his orders or endanger the life of the woman he loves!

This one was such a quick and fun read set in the world of crime and gangsters. The entire time I was reading it I wanted it to be turned into a Netflix series! There was a good amount of action and the way the character stories all knitted together so nicely made for a perfect book! The ending did seem quite rushed, but it didn’t detract from the story too much.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and wish I wouldn’t have sat on it for so long! I hear this is book 1 in a series, so I’ll definitely be looking out for the others! Thanks again Book Publicity Services for my gifted copy, y’all are awesome!

For underworld enforcer Richard "Rico" Sanders, it seemed like an ordinary job. Retrieve his gangster boss's priceless pigeon-blood red ruby necklace and teach the double-dealing cheat who stole it a lesson. A job like a hundred before it. But the chase quickly goes sideways and takes Rico from the mean streets of Chicago to sunny Honolulu, where the hardened hit man finds himself in uncharted territory when a couple of innocent bystanders are accidentally embroiled in the crime.

As Rico pursues his new targets, the hunter and his prey develop an unlikely respect for one another and Rico is faced with a momentous decision: follow his orders to kill the couple whose courage and character have won his admiration, or refuse and endanger the life of the woman he loves?

This isn't the longest of books, only 203 pages, but there was a lot packed into it and it certainly kept my interest. Without any spoilers, there was something likeable about the main character, even if he is a hitman. I would have liked there to have been a bit more about him as a person but there was enough to start to get a feeling for him and why he does what he does. Also this is the first book in a trilogy so hopefully there will be more backstory or insight. Although crime fiction, there was elements of romance in there too and I felt they were merged together well.

Overall, after getting past the first couple chapters which I did struggle with as they seemed a bit random, this was a fast paced, old school crime story and I did enjoy it. I'd like to see where it goes next.

I was gifted this book for my honest review

Pigeon Blood Red by Ed Duncan tells the story of a chase after a stolen Pigeon Blood Red Ruby necklace.
Rico works together with Jerry for a loan shark called Litvak. One day Litvak hands both of them a necklace to transport it. While transporting the necklace they are also transporting one of Litvaks clients who sees a chance to get out of his depth.
He escapes with the necklace to Hawaii and the chase begins.

This first book of a trilogy is a classical crime thriller.
I was intrigued by it considering I read my last thriller in 2015.
I must admit that found the synopsis a bit confusing and this issue also reoccurred throughout the story.

I enjoyed the story a lot. It was fast paced and interesting and I am looking forward to the next two books of this trilogy.
But I hope (and now I come to my problems) that certain things would be fixed.
I personally needed a long time to get into the book. I found the writing approach at some points confusing and didn't really know who did what at what time so that I had to re-read some pages for several times, which disappointed me a bit as it slowed my whole reading down in a story that moves so quick.
And again I needed time to get into it with every part of it as it jumped from here to there from that perspective to that in just a second without introduction.
In addition to that I had some problems to relate to the characters. I was nearly through the whole book when I first noticed I could picture them, so a better descriptions of those is something I wish for in the next book.

Overall I was impressed by the story and the darkness of it. And I rated the book with 3.75 of 5 stars. I definitely feel I would read the second one, but I also hope for improvement. I can't complain about the story, it is solid, it is intriguing, it is fast paced and very unique in most of the points.

Thanks again to Ed Duncan for providing me with a copy of this book.

SUMMARY:
Rico is a fixer who works for people with money and power. He is good at his job and does so with ease and without stress. His latest job is to find a pigeon-blood red ruby that he lost / was stolen. The re-con mission takes him to Hawaii, following the thief and his wife. Once he arrives, he finds out the job is not as simple as it once seemed.
