This will inevitably be compared to [b:The Thursday Murder Club|46000520|The Thursday Murder Club (Thursday Murder Club, #1)|Richard Osman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582287822l/46000520._SY75_.jpg|70861405] - a Scooby Gang of elders who solve murders - and to my mind it doesn't do well in the comparison. The characters are superficial, the mysteries too easy, and characters' various infirmaties are exploited for plot purposes: it's very convenient for a mystery author to have players who intermittantly can't hear or remember things. It's a perfectly ok cozy, but doesn't have any depth.

Thank you to NetGalley and Soho Press for the advanced reader's copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. All opinions expressed are my own.

Maybe something was lost in translation from German to English, but I could not get into this book. Quirky cozy mysteries normally entice me, but this one just made me sad. I struggled to get to 30% in before I skipped ahead towards the ending, hoping for some resolution When I got to the point where I found out who the killer was, well, I'm glad I didn't waste my time going over the book methodically.

You want quirky geriatric crime solving, stick with the Thursday Night Murder Club.

This was a big no for me. In keeping with my rules for rating books, I will not post on my blog or social media, only providing this review for NetGalley and Goodreads.
