Sunset Hall is the residence of six old, willful, obstinate housemates. In a house owned by Agnes Sharp, a former CID officer, she has gathered five confederates with police or secret service in their past lives. Each of them has their own version of elderly ailments—Alice is having difficulty walking, and one of the former secret service agents is suffering from the beginnings of dementia. They have agreed not to allow one another to go into a nursing home. Their solution is to house share with an oath to take action when it becomes likely. Lilith is the first of the group to need their special brand of care. So on a sunny morning when she is happily working in her garden, she is shot before she knows it. The remainder of the group are left to determine how to proceed when the local police show up to question them regarding the murder of a nearby neighbor. How are they to deal with Lillian’s body when the police are searching the area in relation to the other murder. Along with a tortoise named Hettie, a wolfhound known as Brexit, a grandson with a sweet tooth and a stair lift repairman turned burglar, the housemates collaborate on how to proceed to solve the other murder so that Lillian’s death can be pinned on the guilty party.

This book is the first of a series titled “Miss Sharp Investigates”. Although not as well done as Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club, it does include some interesting characters and the plot was interesting enough for me to stay involved to the end. Overall I will probably continue reading in the series.
