4.5 stars.
I really enjoyed this. It was super engaging and the action never stopped. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

4.5 Stars. Such an improvement from book #1. The growth of Elisa and her struggle to become queen is really shown in this next leg of her journey. She goes from this super naive girl who struggles with her image and weight to someone who is confident in not only her body but her overall self. I enjoyed all the religious text and riddles in learning more about the God Stone (which still can be a funny aspect for me to think about for some reason). I thought the conversations and dialogue were more mature and interesting. Her love interest was MUCH better. (I sensed that was coming in book 1.) I’m excited to start the next book and see how it all comes together!
** the audio is great and highly recommend.

Oh, I am so glad I have the next book sitting on my shelf. I don't think I could handle it otherwise.
I decided to stop reading this series. It’s just eh to me and there’s so many great books out there. I’d rather read those or spend that time doing something better.
What didn’t this book have? Intrigue, politics, assignation plots, love, murder, magic... I’m obsessed with this series. I think I liked it even better than the first one, and I’ve heard good thing about the next ones as well so I’m excited. Now I just have to wait for shipping, ugh!
I literally devoured this book. I nearly read it in one sitting, but I was at work and people wouldn’t leave me alone...what are ya gonna do? I found myself liking Elisa more in this novel. Now that she’s found her feet more. Rosario is the cutest thing. I’m digging the girl power vibes I got throughout this book, but not in an overbearing way. More like a “yeah, she’s a badass and a girl...get over it” way.
Rae Carson is not afraid to zig when you think the story is gonna zag, and I love that. There were several twisty plot points that I liked, and the overall plot was well established, easy to follow, and quick-paced.
I can’t wait for the next 2 to arrive so I can see what’s next, bc Mrs. Carson does like her cliffies.
TLDR: Would recommend. If they keep getting better I’m gonna have to dust off that 5 star button.

I enjoyed even more the growth of characters and the development of relationships. I even like the 'religious' aspect of the book. I like how much the characters are willing to grow and see where they are and what they want. I love that Elisa is figuring out how to be an independent and strong leader but also someone who can find a way to have the things she wants I can't wait for the next book to be out.
