A fitting sequel to A Girl of Fire and Thorns I don't think it did better then its predecessor but it did on par. I think my biggest thing with this series for me is going to be that I am personally biased when it comes to the plot of the series and how it revolves around GOD. I know it is not fair to the series. I am highly intrigued with the story and everything; I read it very fast and it holds my attention.

The Plot in this one was faster pace and the stakes seem to have been raised. However as with the last book I think the third act of these books are heavily rushed. All of a sudden your expecting this big blow out or payoff to happen and nothing ever really comes of it. For example the ending of this book was so rushed that I never felt any real impact from the outcome.

Characters are another pro/con for me. Some characters are likeable and fleshed out and other characters are just blah. Elisa to me is the only one who is completely fleshed out. Obviously there is a reason for that, but I want to care more about the other characters. In book 2 we learn a little more about Mara and Hector but still nothing groundbreaking. Ximena is still as mysterious as ever. I want to see more character growth in the last book from other characters besides Elisa.

Lastly I want to talk about world building. Now world building is one of my favorite aspects in books. I love the feeling of getting completely immersed in new worlds because it is a total escape from reality. I want a little more from the world. I feel like all we've seen is desert and more desert.

I am ready to see how this all wraps up in book 3.

This book does not have middle book syndrome at all! It starts off with a public, fear-inducing demand and Elisa quickly learns that she is not safe and her country isn't as peaceful as she would hope. Forces are at work that target Elisa and her reign as Queen of Joya d'Arena. In addition, she is still struggling to accept that her life may be forfeit to her service.

I think the best part of this book can honestly be summed up in one word: HECTOR. I fucking love this guy so much. He is so kind, intelligent, but also powerful and understanding. I love how he never condescends to Elisa. He treats her like an equal and his reactions to when she surprises him are priceless. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH.
PLus Elisa and Hector are soooooo cute together. Like Humberto was nice but he was only a boy HECTOR IS A MAN AND OMFG THE SEXUAL TENSION I COULD CUT IT WITH A KNIFE

There's many different subplots that are woven together in this installment. Elisa goes on a journey to find answers and something to help her kingdom. I absolutely loved how much Elisa was dedicated to the kingdom and people of Joya. She is such a wonderful queen, even though she has some confidence issues. I know she is going to be wonderful. Ugh I love her too.

Elisa and Maura finally get to bond throughout this story. Their friendship was a lovely thing. I liked how Elisa and Maura would confide in each other and truly take comfort from having someone to talk to. Jimenya was a great motherly figure, she really nails the parent role, some times a little to well. But I love her for fiercely protecting Elisa to the best of her ability.

Wow...it was awesome....kinda mad that I have to wait for next fall to know how the series ends.

Absolutely stunning. I couldn't put it down and am currently in desperate need of the next book.

Juste parfait. La suite, il me faut la suite !

such a good sequel! usually I love the first book more than the second but this series was different for me. I love this story and I can't wait to start book 3!

While this book may not be an allegory, you cannot possibly read this and not see scripture and the things of God being weaved into the story. I am quite addicted to Rae Carson's writing style and her descriptions. I think this book was even better than the first.

Ahhhh, this was so good!!! It has been forever since I finished the first one, but from what I remember about how I felt about that book, this one is just as good or better. The plot is great, full of twists and turns. The romance aspect keeps you on your toes. And the friendships change and evolve as needed. Elisa grows more toward the end of the book and really starts to embrace her queenly title. I don't want to give anything away because it is a sequel, but everyone who likes the Throne of Glass series will probably like this one. Now I'm off to the third book when i should really be sleeping!

One of these days, I really need a t shirt saying ”Books Happen".
At least its late enough that I can't track down the third book and finish it without falling asleep.
Carson's trilogy remains almost compulsively readable and her characters and world, as before, just become more interesting with every page. This one definitely goes onto the list of YA books worth reading.

4.5 stars, rounding up.

Man, how did I forget how GOOD this series is? I definitely won't be waiting so long before I read the conclusion.
