I keep borrowing and returning this story from the library. I just can’t seem to get more than a few pages in without losing interest. There’s so much random stuff going on, information to absorb, yet it’s also somehow still so obscure. Life’s too short to waste time on books you don’t like so I’m done with this one now!
This was not a bad story by any means, but I really felt nothing while reading it. I didn't feel creeped out or horrified. I think it was successfully esoteric, but also intentionally confusing in areas to make it seem more than it was. It was just alien conspiracy theories explained in terms of Lovecraftian lore. I give props for an original theme, but I think it would have benefited from a more straightforward approach.
Me having just watched I know them!
Mainly this is 4 stars from me, and not 5, because i wish there was MORE ... it's only 120 pages and I would have loved for more about the various characters and their thoughts and experiences.

I finished this last week, and am struggling to actually remember much about it... Other than it felt like an episode of X-Files. Not a particularly GOOD episode, but not a bad one either.
It came highly recommended by my fellow lovers of Cosmic Horror and while it does deliver, and the writing style wasn't bad, it felt disjointed (perhaps on purpose, I did NOT know this was a series until I actually just started to write this review) and stunted.
The characters actually do stand out in my memory, they were absolutely well done. But really it mostly just came across as a bunch of things happening. Then the things happening ceased.
I keep pushing it as a meh, self contained xfiles episode but, I that's really my hot take on this.
Honestly though it's a solid two star read, it was short, unpredictable and had good writing and characters. Heavy on the sci-fi, and short on horror. With some good detective noir and decent plot twists.
Will I read the others in this series? Yeah probably. Because truth be told, I'll take a lukewarm X-Files episode any day of the week.

Government agents with cryptic codenames. Cults. Agents of Dreamland is a slim tale of Lovecraftian horror. A government agent known only as the Signalman goes from sitting in a diner with an informant to trying to prevent an alien fungus from causing an apocalypse. This a creepy, well-written novella. And at only 126 pages, you can get through it in a weekend. Read if you love: Lovecraft, The X-Files. – Mike M.
Another haunting, excellently written, lovecraftian novella by Caitlin Kiernan.

Audiobook. Skipping around multiple protagonists, locations and times. Including one protagonist whose consciousness skips across the surface of time. Pretty confusing stuff.
Nevertheless it does mostly pull together into a compelling cosmic horror story set in a Cthulhu Mythos backdrop.

My first Kiernan ever and wow! Caitlín's prose is just gorgeous. Every sentence is incredibly rich and layered. The plot, though, is definitely confusing and distracting. So much weirdness happens, and not a lot of it makes sense, but somehow I was dragged into the story. I'll definitely be seeking out more of their work after this one, and I definitely plan to finish off this series!
