Well, as soon as you think you know where JJ McAvoy, she throws twists that you never saw coming into her series. This book blew my mind and I enjoyed all the plot twists and background information that the reader did not realize was happening in the past three books. While I enjoyed this book, I could not give this book five stars due to the way I could not make an emotional connection with the characters. In Ruthless People series, McAvoy pulls you in and you feel so much for the MC that you cheer for the bad guys; however, with the children's books, I just do not feel the same pull or emotion. I am probably one of the few who feel this way, but at the end of the book my mind was not on the twists and turns, but on how I just could not connect with the characters. If you enjoy being thrown off your axis, then this book is for you, just know that if you think you know where this series is going, you really do not have a clue.
“My grandfather used to say no one wants to be normal; they want to be us, but they can’t so they label us odd.”
The reason I hated the first book was Ivy. She was weak and annoying. I didn’t see her worthy and I was fucking right.
I have to say I hate the way Calli and Ethan talk about his siblings. Like they’re dumb and crying little babies?? Like wtf?? I read the same kinda conversations with Melody and Liam too but they were right to have those because Liam’s family was dumb.
I love plot twists but this one seemed a little unnecessary to be honest. The other book can be about Calli making herself the queen and everyone would still read it. Her trying to bring down Callahan’s at this point seems unnecessary to me.

This book is essentially Ethan’s true perspective during the time covered by the first book in this series. Like his parents, Ethan is in a dysfunctional crazy relationship. There is no dull moments in this story. JJ keeps you on your toes from the beginning of the book to the end

A woman chasing a man; the way she did..that's new; that I like.
What a tragic waste of an amazing series. The spin offs just ruined the characters for me. After 4 books I’m giving up. Mel and Liam’s story is just that good, best mafia series that exist for sure, sadly the children didn’t live up to them and the plot doesn’t make sense at all. I’ll gladly re-read Ruthless people again, and the entire series because it was well crafted and epic but not this trash. The spin-offs continue with 6 books in total. I’ve read 4 and it wasn’t that great. So im out. If you loved the main series and especially Mel and Liam’s relationship, don’t read the children’s book. Just don’t. You’ll thank me later. You can read some amazing reviews about it here on GR regarding why you shouldn’t continue with it.
