Great world building, character development, and pace. At every twist and turn, I found myself pleasantly surprised and unsure of which choice would be made. The more that was introduced in the world also didn’t feel like it was too much or too little. I felt like I grew with the character as the book moved on.

This was an awesome debut from Tan. While it was a little slow at the beginning, the back half of the book had me on the edge of my seat, and I couldn't put it down. I immediately picked up the second book of the duology!

I couldn't get into the writing; this story and its characters were uninteresting and felt jumbled. One thing happened, then the next, and it wasn't allowed to breathe; it was more tell than show.
