Everly and Isaac.
Little smut
Would have been a 5 star if she didn’t forgive her bestfriend FUCKING HER FUCKING HUSBAND.

“Now I’m a prisoner, just like Everly. Like Sara. Our lives, threaded together between two cells. Devoid of light. Destined to end the same.”

RIP MY HEART OUT JENNIFER & CHELLEY AND TOSS IT IN A BLENDER. wow. I should've known how this would go. I am new to Chelley but Jennifer Hartmann never holds back. She just has a way with words. I didn't even know this book was coming but got the release notification and decided I needed something that would really make me feel. Well this definitely hit the nail on the head.

“Truthfully, I’m more of a cat person. Any animal that can tell you to fuck off just by blinking is right up my alley.”

Isaac and Everly are two deeply lost and tortured souls that find each other behind a wall and form a very unique bond. Of course they trauma bond but they also brought out the vulnerable parts of themselves they keep strictly guarded and hidden. I think this story, and it's corresponding events, played out the way they were meant to and in a way that was realistic for a fictional world.

“Isaac isn’t my salvation, and I’m not his. We’re something quieter, something steadier—two broken souls learning how to be whole alongside one another, even if the cracks still show.”

It is that kind of book that will keep you up till 2am because you aren't ready to put it down. The writing is phenomenal. The story is woven together in a way that keeps the suspense and longing alive. It's a story you simultaneously can't put down but need to digest the events that have unfolded. Read this book. I personally cannot wait to get more stories from some of our favorite side characters.

“Grief is such a complicated thing. It can crash over us like a heavy tide, pulling us under, only to release us with a sharp, cruel breath. Sometimes it’s quiet—an unspoken weight that lingers, subtle but constant. It can scream, or it can whisper, reminding us of what we’ve lost and what we can never reclaim. It doesn’t heal. It teaches. And in its wake, there’s an unexpected kind of peace—the kind that comes with the painful understanding that some parts of us are meant to stay broken.”

I liked it.

I always find these authors to really put you through an emotional rollercoaster, so need something light after.

This book is split in two halves - the first being when the two characters are being held captive. I enjoyed the thriller aspect as well as the growing relationship that they had through this period of time.

The second half was after, which some of the plot took me by surprise.

I dont want to give any spoilers, so will just say that I enjoyed the first half more, however there was still plenty of drama in the second half of the book to keep you engaged.

I think they are writing another book in this world, so will be keeping an eye out for that one

Quick note: this review WILL include spoilers but I will NOT be spoiling anything before I include a spoiler warning. The safety info is at the very bottom of the review and it will be spoilers, but I can’t give good safety info without spoiling. I will include vague safety info without spoilers for those who do not want them.

It’s been about 2 or 3 years since I’ve cracked opened a Jennifer Hartmann book, so I decided to dive into this one without thinking much of it.

Everly has been captivity for two years now when Isaac (Nick) enters the picture. Isaac is abducted while undercover, trying to find the missing pieces to his sister’s disappearance. Isaac and Everly open up to each other, although Isaac is harboring secrets that he doesn’t tell Everly until the last 30% of the book
