Wow, what genre is this exactly? I didn't see a mystery at all but guess will have to settle with that, since they were on a journey/adventure seeking something and finding clues along the way, but not in the typical mystery sense. It was paranormal, but only very lightly. Urban Fantasy doesn't feel quite right. Could call it Paranormal Romance to settle it, although the book wasn't terribly romantic.

I wanted to like this one more than I did - I'm a big fan of Evanovich. It just felt too forced to me, cute story and cute scenes, but overall so "Cute" it started ruining itself. I also felt zero chemistry between Diesel and Lizzy, so their romance just wasn't believable to me. He seemed to show up, they liked each other right away for no big reason, and that's that. The monkey was fun sometimes, but he didn't give me big kicks either. Mainly with his scenes I just thought, gross. The cat kicked ass, however, as a reliable sidekick.

I have to wonder if Diesel was lying about the baking power to explain why the cakes ruled so much, then why did her cakes suddenly start failing if it has nothing to do with powers?

I did like the book - it was over the top, made fun of itself the whole time, Evanovich seemed to have fun writing it and mixes her words well enough, it just felt too overdone to me, making itself a little staler than I would have liked. Have the second waiting to be read.

Cute story. Witty and fast paced. Some parts were so funny I cried from laughing so hard. Can't wait to read the next one!

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best either. It reminded me too much of the in-between the Plums series (had some of the same characters, too) and didn't feel like anything new or "fresh." Most of the time I even pictured Lizzy like I picture Stephanie. It was entertaining though, there were parts that I couldn't help but to literally laugh out loud at. There's potential in the series and I'd like the next one to come out fairly soon.

This book was brain candy. Silly, fun and simple. If you expect any measure of depth or logical plot develop, you'll be disappointed. This one will make you giggle but it definitely won't make you think.

A total trashy read. Very fast, just a few hours long. Nothing about the book is logical and Evanovich doesn't create a new world. But, for some reason it entertained rather than distracted me.

This seems to be the beginning of a new Diesel series. While it isn't laugh out loud funny, I like the characters, pacing and plot.

Update: read the hardback instead. A good way to burn a few hours. Wacky and fun, not a literary masterpiece but entertaining enough. A good palette cleanser between all the heavy fantasy I've been reading lately.

1st attempt: Gave up after about 6 chapters. The audio book narrator is terrible...what accent is she trying to do?

Love this new series

Entertaining enough I may eventually read the sequel when I'm in the mood for a mindless escape, but nothing to get excited about. Just meh.
